December is always a busy month for most people, the holidays will be here before we know it.  This is always a great  time to think about supporting others who may be less fortunate than ourselves.  Nevins is proud to be a drop off point for the Friday Food Backpack program that provides food on weekends for those deserving students on the meal program who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. We also are supporting two "Giving Trees" this year, one for homeless families and one for elders in need.   See below for more in-depth info on all these efforts and how  you can help.
Annual Friends of the Library Barnes and Noble Bookfair

It is going to be an exciting event! Also, a Librarian from the Nevins Library will be doing crafts with the children!! Come shop for that perfect holiday gift and have it wrapped at our gift wrapping table! Upon entering Barnes & Noble, come see us at the Friends' table to say "Hello" and obtain your shopping sticker, which identifies you as a Nevins Library shopper. You can also present the coupon that may be obtained on-line from our web site, www.nevinslibary.org or picked up at the Readers' Services desk.

Library Giving Trees

Children's Giving Tree for Emmaus House
The Children's Department of the Nevins Library has led the way for many years by hosting a Giving Tree for charity. This year we are helping provide gifts for the children served by Emmaus House in Haverhill. Did you know that the average age of a homeless person in Massachusetts is 8 years old? Through its shelters and housing programs, Emmaus, Inc. served 1,561 children from the Merrimack Valley last year, and on any given night 300 adults and children call Emmaus home.  Stop by the Children's Room and choose a wish list item to purchase and put under the tree by December 15, and we'll wrap and deliver them to Emmaus!

Secret Santa for Seniors Tree for the Nevins Nursing Home
Help bring some holiday joy to the residents of Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center by participating in the Secret Santa/Giving Tree at the Nevins Memorial Library in Methuen. Anonymous tags with gift ideas will hang on the tree on the Library's main floor. Pick up a tag and purchase the suggested item (no more than $10.00 please.) Please return your unwrapped gift by December 16th in the box located next to the tree. Gifts will be distributed at a party in December with a surprise visit from Santa! This program is coordinated by Connor Aalto, who is a student volunteer at the Nevins Home. Link
