June is a busy month here at the Nevins Library.  Our summer reading programs will be starting at the end of the month so be sure to check out our Calendar of Events to see what's planned for the next few months.  The teen librarian Amy Fowler, has got some fun stuff planned for the YA crowd as well. As always, we have some great beach reads ready for those going on vacation so stop by and pick up your favorite author's books or maybe indulge in a dvd for some quality downtime.

Children's Activities in June!!

The 2014 Summer Reading Theme is: Every Hero Has a Story?

Flyers listing program dates for children Pre-K to Grade 6 will be available at the Children's Information Desk in early June. Children can create their online summer reading logs starting June 13th. Stop by the library and use our computers or sign up from any Internet access point. Don't forget to visit the Children's Department and pick up your FREE summer reading activity packet.

The summer reading program kicks off with two special events. On June 29 at 6:30 pm we will host a rompin' family music concert featuring award winning singer, Alastair Moock. The Boston Globe calls him one of "Boston's best and most adventurous songwriters." Moock's zany sense of humor, his gravelly voice, his original style and irresistible warmth and energy make this a *must see *way for families to celebrate summer this year, 5 star family entertainment.

On July 1 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm we will host Big Game Day. Families can come and take turns playing a giant board game of Scrabble, Hi- Towers, Checkers, Dominos, and Mega 4-in-a-Line . Come join the fun!

Please use the Eventkeeper calendar to register for all summer reading programs starting on June 24th at 5:00 pm. Go to www.nevinslibrary.org , then click on the "Calendar of Events" link to register for programs. The library will also have material to support the summer reading lists of the Methuen Public Schools.

Introducing...Our New Teen Services Librarian!

The Nevins Library is very excited to introduce our new Teen Services Librarian, Amy!  She comes to us from another local library and brings with her a ton of great ideas for fun programs.  Amy is a huge fan of anime & manga, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Marvel comics and writing.  She has already put some of her favorite books on display on the shelves near the New YA books!  Come by and say "Hi!" next time you are in the library, and be sure to check the calendar of events at www.nevinslibrary.org for all the latest Teen Programs!

What's Up in YA This Month?

On Tuesday, June 9th @ 3pm we'll be playing some improv games at the library. Like "Whose Line is it Anyway"? Then come and try your hand at some of the hilarious games where everything is made up off the top of your head.

Now that the warm weather is finally here we're going to take advantage of it with some outdoor games. On Tuesday June 23rd @ 3pm we'll be playing a capture the flag tournament. Come in your best running clothes so that you can protect your team's flag and take down the opposing team. Which team will win? Only time will tell!

And with the end of June comes the beginning of Summer Reading. On Tuesday, June 30th @ 2pm we'll be celebrating the start of the Summer Reading Program with a kick off party for grades 7-12! Come and sign up for the library's Summer Reading program so that you can start earning tickets towards some fabulous prizes. Be ready for a relay race of heroic proportions so that we can start off the summer with a bang!
