Norman Rockwell: Inclusion, Exclusion, and Evolving Views on Race
Tue. Feb 9th at 7pm

Join us on Zoom for a great program about one of America’s favorite artists!

Toward the end of his career, Rockwell painted several poignant works about race in America that can be seen as an extension of his earlier sense of the power of inclusion and exclusion.

Art Historian Jane Oneail will deliver an enlightening talk, all about Rockwell and his evolving views on race during his career.
Let's Swap Puzzles!
Feb 23rd - Feb 25th, Feb 27th
During Our Open Hours

Do you enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, but need something new to work on?

Do you have a pile of puzzles you've already done and just don't want to look at anymore?

Maybe you've already completed the puzzles you received over the holidays?

Bring in your complete puzzles (no one likes a puzzle with a piece missing) to the Fireplace Room, and then take home new-to-you puzzles.

Any leftover puzzles will be given to the Friends of the Library for a future book sale.

We will be observing library guidelines respecting social distancing and capacity limits.

Update your puzzle stash to help get through the winter blues.
Mindfulness & Meditation Series
Join us at 7pm on Zoom every Wednesday night in February to participate in a 4-week series of 30-minute Meditation Sessions led by Amy Rutledge, a Meditation Guide, Artist and Actor.

Each Session is on a different topic, and has an introduction, guided practice, and time for Questions and Answers.

This Series is presented in partnership with the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, the Lawrence Public Library and the Merrimack Valley YMCA.
This month our wildly popular Mindful Moment packets are back. Those packets that have hopefully helped you and your family take a calming break during your busy days.

Suitable for all ages, each packet still includes an arts and crafts project, relaxing activities, a suggested reading list, and inspirational notes -- and the contents are yours to keep.

The packets will be available beginning February 17th, and will be distributed while supplies last -- just visit the Nevins Library website to fill out a Google form to request a packet and to make an appointment to pick it up at the library.

The link to that Google Form will go live on the afternoon of February 5th.
The Nevins Library is proud to join Flint Memorial Library and other Mass libraries to present a Virtual Author Event: Robin Cook in conversation with Hank Phillippe Ryan.

Dr. Robin Cook is the author of 37 worldwide bestsellers which have sold hundreds of millions of copies. Most of Dr. Cook’s books explore various medical, ethical, and public policy issues.

Books will be available for sale before and during the event from our bookstore partner Haley Booksellers. Registration is required for this event. Links to registration can be found on our website, Facebook page, and Calendar of Events. Please give us a call if you need any help!

The Roots of Black Music in America
February 15 - February 28

This February, the Nevins Memorial Library teen's and children's departments will be cohosting a musical and educational performance by Karlus Trapp.

This program is an entertaining 100-year journey back through time to hear the music of America’s black musical giants.

This program will be available on the Nevins Memorial Library Young Adult Facebook Page, the Nevins Children's Room Facebook Page, and the Nevins between February 15- February 28.

Make sure to watch those spots for the link when it goes live!

We look forward to "seeing" you there!
What's Happening in Children's?
May the Force Be With Us All!
February may be a short month, but it sometimes seems like the longest month of winter – so let us help you brighten things up with some great programs!

A highlight of our February programming is a very special event for school vacation week: A Virtual Visit with Star Wars Characters. Members of the “501st Garrison and Alderaan Base” will read aloud some of their favorite stories and answer questions that children have submitted with their registration – sure to be fun and informative!

And if you’ve liked our Take-and-Make craft bags, you’ll love the bigger and better version we’ve created – Book a Craft – which includes books that you can check out along with crafts for kids to do at home.

Last but not least, throughout the month we’ll have our usual array of online storytimes, book groups, and programs for babies and preschoolers – and even though we can’t do “live” programs, we always enjoy seeing you when you visit the library to check out books.
