Everyone plays a role in keeping rights of way clear


Public Works is responsible for many functions of our local government. We are comprised of four divisions: Engineering, Solid Waste, Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control, and Maintenance and Operations. We are also responsible for a drawbridge on our barrier island and a lock in South Gulf Cove. We even manage several cemeteries and provide oversite of mining operations throughout Charlotte County.


Most people reading this have already moved here and have come to love our little piece of paradise. With monthly home permits exceeding records and still topping more than 300 new homes a month, people continue to move here in large numbers. We take pride that others love our area as much as we do, but this can present some challenges to our team at Public Works.

Can't attend one of our flood workshops? We recorded one! This workshop reviews the new flood maps that will become effective Dec. 15, 2022. The presentation also addresses the newly implemented Risk Rating 2.0 flood insurance pricing.

We are now accepting photos for our 2023 Active Outside Calendar that feature people participating in outdoor activities, whether it’s sports, swimming, boating, beachcombing, bird watching, hiking, playing at the playground or whatever else you do outdoors!

The Rays visited Summer Camp this week and played ball with our campers 

Social Media Spotlight

Over the weekend, Public Works crews were asked to assist Fire and EMS by bringing multiple truckloads of fill dirt and machinery to the site of a semi fire on I-75. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped out!
