SKÅL INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR NOMINATIONS

Dear Skålleagues,

During a special meeting held yesterday, August 17th, 2023, the Skål International Executive Board agreed that under the new governance structure a Skålleague can be nominated for Director if endorsed by his/her Club and/or his/her National Committee and/or his/her Area Committee, if one exists.

That is, there is no requirement to have that person nominated by their Club and endorsed by his/her National and/or Area Committee. Now, any one of these 3 bodies can nominate a candidate for Director if he/she complies with all other requirements already informed (see updated information below).

May we remind you that the call for nominations is open until September 4th, 2023. Nominations for Directors must be submitted through the special electronic form designed for this purpose (available here).

Skål International Elections 2023

Call for submission of candidates

for Directors, Auditor, Deputy Auditor and Membre d’Honneur of Skål International

Deadline for submission: 4 September 2023

Dear Skålleagues,

The call for submissions of candidates for the positions of Directors, Auditor and Deputy Auditor of Skål International, as well as for the distinction of Membre d’Honneur of Skål International is now open.

The procedures and eligibility requirements for the nomination of candidates for each election are set out below.

All nominations must be submitted using the electronic application form designed for this purpose and included under each section.

We are confident that the first phase of the organisation's transition towards the new governance structure will be completed successfully, and we appreciate beforehand your support and commitment.

FOR PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF SKÅL INTERNATIONAL

Membership will vote for the office of President for the last time in 2023.
The candidates for the position of President will be the two current Vice Presidents:

Annette Cardenas (Region 4 – South/Central America)
Denise Scrafton (Region 12 – Australia)

Candidate with the highest vote will become President in 2024. Candidate with the second highest vote will remain Vice President and become President-Elect for 2025.
No Vice President election will be held in 2023. No Deputy Vice President will be elected for this transition year as Directors are not yet selected and the two in place have not served on the Executive Board for a minimum of two years.

FOR DIRECTOR OF SKÅL INTERNATIONAL

Deadline for submission of nominations: 4 September 2023

Any Skål International Club and/or National Committee and/or Area Committee having fulfilled its financial and other responsibilities to Skål International may nominate from amongst its Active or Life members, one candidate for Director of their country.

All countries are urged to offer a candidate for election. In the case of one country-one Region, they should submit, at least, two candidates. If a Region is not able to provide minimum two candidates for Director by 4 September 2023, this Region will be without a seat on the Executive Board for the entire term of this Region’s tenure, as each Region must have a Director and a Deputy Director in place. Should only one country in a multiple country Region put forward a candidate for Director, a derogation by the Executive Board can be made for that country to offer a second candidate, so the Region will have a Deputy Director if no other country puts forward a candidate.

Region 1 (USA) and Region 10 (India) must elect their Deputy Director, as they will already have a Director on the Executive Board – Andres Hayes and Mohan NSN respectively.

Elections for Directors will be specific to the candidates from each country in a Region to be voted on only by the Clubs within that Region.

Candidates’ Criteria/Qualifications

Must have been a member of Skål International for at least the three years immediately preceding the elections.
Must be Active or Life members in good standing in their Skål Club, National/Area Committee.
Must have served as an elected officer of a local Skål Club and/or National or Area Committee.
Must be nominated and endorsed by their Skål Club and/or their National and/or Area Committee, if applicable.
Must speak one of the 3 official languages: English, Spanish, or French.
Their Club must be accredited and in good financial standing in Skål International.
Candidates elected to the position of Director must resign from any other position at any level of the organisation no later than 31 December 2023.
Candidates for Director must sign a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and a Declaration of Interests, when submitting their nomination.

Documents to be submitted:

Nomination letter signed by the candidate’s Skål Club and/or National Committee and/or Area Committee President
Candidate’s professional and Skål International Curriculum Vitae.
Letter from candidate’s company or employer confirming their managerial or equivalent position.
Candidate required to sign and submit the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Directors and the Declaration of Interests.

FOR AUDITOR AND DEPUTY AUDITOR OF SKÅL INTERNATIONAL

Deadline for submission of nominations: 4 September 2023

Each Region may nominate from amongst its Active or Life members, one candidate for the positions of Auditor and Deputy Auditor.

The Executive Board will vet Auditor candidates. Auditors will be elected by membership globally.

Candidates’ Criteria/Qualifications

Must have been a member of Skål International for at least the three years immediately preceding the elections.
Must be Active or Life members in good standing in their Skål Club, National/Area Committee.
Must have served as an elected officer of a local Skål Club and/or National or Area Committee.
Must be nominated and endorsed by their Skål Club and their National or Area Committee if applicable.
Must speak one of the 3 official languages: English, Spanish, or French.
Their Club must be accredited and in good financial standing in Skål International.
Candidate elected to the position of Auditor must resign from any other position at any level of the organisation no later than 31 December 2023.
Must have a comprehensive financial qualifications and background.
Candidates for Auditor and Deputy Auditor must sign a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and a Declaration of Interests, when submitting their nomination.

Documents to be submitted:

Nomination letter signed by the candidate’s Skål Club President endorsed by the National or Area Committee
Candidate’s professional and Skål International Curriculum Vitae.
Letter from candidate’s company or employer confirming their managerial or equivalent position.
Candidate required to sign and submit the Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Declaration of Interests.

FOR MEMBRE D’HONNEUR OF SKÅL INTERNATIONAL

Deadline for submission of nominations: 4 September 2023

Nominations for the distinction of Membre d’Honneur must be submitted with the full agreement of at least three Skål International Clubs, one of these being the Club to which the member proposed belongs, and approved by the National or Area Committee.

Candidates for Membre d’Honneur will be elected by membership globally.

Candidates’ Criteria/Qualifications

Must be Active, Life or Retired members in good standing in their Skål Club, National/Area Committee. The award may also be made posthumously.
Must be nominated by at least three Skål Clubs and endorsed by their National or Area Committee if applicable.
Their Club must be accredited and in good financial standing in Skål International.

Documents to be submitted:

Nomination letter signed by at least three Skål Clubs and approved by the National or Area Committee, stating the services rendered by the proposed member and justify the nomination.
Candidate’s professional and Skål International Curriculum Vitae.

CANDIDATES’ FORUM

Candidates’ Forums will be held in each Region from 12 September to 11 October 2023 at 5:00pm local time prior to the virtual elections. All candidates must make themselves available to participate in the forums.

ELECTIONS

Elections for Director, Auditor, Deputy Auditor and Membre d’Honneur will be organised by Skål International in each Region and will be held virtually using Election Buddy within two weeks prior to the date of the Annual General Assembly.

Skål International Clubs will be required to report their voting delegate(s) to the General Secretariat by 23 September 2023. Further information on the election process will be provided closer to the date.

Elections results will be announced at the Skål International Annual General Assembly that will be held in Málaga, Spain, on 3 November 2023.
