Dear Saint Mark Family,

By now most of us, if not all, have seen the images of a fire-ravaged Maui on the news or other forms of media. They are heart wrenching. The stories are just as painful, and the grim reality is that the death toll is likely to increase as first responders continue searching the debris.

On Sunday we prayed for the residents of Maui, but there is another we can also support them, and that is with our gifts. Through the United Methodist Commission On Relief, UMCOR, we can help provide the basic necessities to the residents of Maui as they navigate the devastation they are facing.

UMCOR has already disbursed an emergency grant to provide shelf-stable food, water, hygiene items and tools to help survivors recover their belongings. Through our gifts, we can partner in the work that is already being done by UMCOR. Every dollar given to UMCOR will go directly to help the residents of Maui. This Sunday, we will collect a special offering during worship towards this effort. No matter how small the amount, every gift will make an impact.

This Sunday, we will celebrate Minister Sheila Stephens as she enters retirement. There will be a reception in Wade Hall , between services, and all are welcome. Come and let her know your appreciation for her and the work she has done during her time at Saint Mark.

We will continue our sermon series “The Character of a Methodist” this Sunday, and we will focus on “Pray Without Ceasing.” I invite you to come and let us worship God together, while we learn about the importance of praying at all time.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Blessings,

Pastor Carolyn.
