~ August 2022 ~

Hello CVOA,

Message from the President . . . . .

Greetings,

No doubt about it, we had a hot spell. As many observed, however, come January we may fondly remember those precious few July days. Regardless of the weather, intrepid CVOA’ers find reasons to get together. Patti and I attended one of these gatherings last Thursday at Pat’s Pizza in Ellsworth. About 20 members who happened to be in Hancock County showed up to recall last season, speculate on the coming season, and enjoy good company. One of the guests was Cindy Foster, a flatland tourist from Colorado. She came in her RV along with her dog Ford to visit with friends and experience life as it ought to be. If you happen upon one of these gatherings, take a few photo’s and along with a proposed caption, send it on to our newsletter crew, Steve and Elaine Smith. It might find its way into one of our newsletters or other publications.

Looking forward to the fall, CVOA is seeking a few volunteers who would like to greet and meet at CVOA’s table during Homecoming. We organize this event into two hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday, October 8 and 9, so as to not interrupt the weekend. You get to say “Hello” to old friends and to make some new ones as we get ready for the upcoming winter. If you’re interested, please contact me, Thom Johnston at cvoa.president@gmail.com.

We haven’t retired summer yet. There are some upcoming events that may be of interest. They’re set out in the CVOA calendar and in articles in this newsletter.

Range News

Hello Range Members,

Please Note: Starting August 1st, shooting guests and the public daily rate will increase to $10/day. Our rates have not changed since the range opened and this increase will help cover the increased cost of target materials as well as the new metal targets to be installed on the Rifle and Pistol Ranges. Our membership rate is still a low $40/per year so if your guests think they may use the range more than 3 times, joining would be worth the expense and also makes them members of CVOA with all our trips, outings and get togethers.

Range Safety Officer Training Slots Available: We have two spaces available for Range Members interested in becoming certified to be Range Safety Officers. The training is being held in Gray, ME at Howell's Gun Shop on Saturday, August 13th from 8am to 5pm. The Range will cover the cost of the class and your travel. Please contact me by August 1st if you are interested.

Public Hours will also be changing on August 1st. Public hours will change to Saturday and Sunday from 9am to noon, unless other arrangements are made with a Range Officer. Public hours do not apply to guests accompanied by members. Guest and Member hours are still Dawn to Dusk, Monday through Friday unless a posted event requires otherwise.

Range Committee to meet on Saturday, July 30th at noon at the Range. If you are interested in joining us, we welcome input and help!

Welcome Bill O'Brian who will be taking on the maintenance of the Range after our amazing Sherie and Harvey Packard moved out of the area. Thank you Bill!
