$10,000
On April 30, at the delightful in-person GALA 2022, donors like you helped us raise money. By May, we turned around swiftly and gave $10,000 to support our amazing DCIS students going to Guatemala for a service-learning trip. Last year, the DCIS Foundation contributed $2234 to this same trip, so the grand total of our gift was $12,234. The extra funds were crucial; they supported a required additional chaperone and made it financially feasible for the entire student group to go for a much more reasonable price. Life-changing!

Donors give and can immediately see the results of their donations.
That's what a local, small, and efficient nonprofit can accomplish. Gracias!

Thanks to some of our students and chaperones, we have fresh pictures from this group that just returned home from the Guatemala service-learning trip, They practiced their Spanish skills and experienced a special, vibrant culture. Students: Kayla M., Ben M., Emily P., Lila D., Paikea N., Maddie D., Marcus A., Alexssa D., Gianna F., and Milla M.; Chaperones were: Ms. May and Ms. Padilla; The travel vendor was Walking Tree.
SHOUT OUT: Even with complex covid protocols, changing itineraries, and relentless preparation, DCIS managed to send over 35 students to travel between April and June. That's a record! A heartfelt and sincere thank you to the teachers, staff, and school administrators, for doing all that was needed to get these programs managed, coordinated, and monitored to maximize safety and educational value.
Board Changes
Matt Harrison, the current Board of Directors Vice President, will take the role of President, effective July 1, 2022. Our current president, Cara Goman, has completed her six-year board commitment.
Ms. Cara Goman, who is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese, served for three years on the board before taking on the president title and responsibilities in 2019. As many of you already know, Cara Goman was a fantastic leader and leaves DCIS Foundation on solid footing and ready for the future. Cara embodies what we care about at DCIS and has immersed herself extensively in multiple cultures, including Guatemala, Spain, Chile, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Brazil. One of her favorite travel stories comes from the Guatemalan countryside by way of a “chicken bus” to meet and interview Trust Bank clients (photo insert). Ms. Goman studied abroad in Mexico City (age 15, exchange), Seville, Spain (age 19); Chile and Brazil (age 20-21); Salamanca, Spain (graduate study). Cara will be deeply missed but her contributions will go on. With deep gratitude and respect, gracias Cara Coman.
The Board of Directors Team is Growing.
NOTIFICATION: The DCIS Foundation is growing and we are looking for smart, engaged people in our community. A direct connection to the schools is not a prerequisite but a caring attitude about our world, international education, intercultural connections, and world languages is required. Sound like you? Do you have a skill you can contribute? A board role is prestigious yet a modest time commitment that makes a big impact. If you are interested in learning more, DCIS Foundation is interviewing members this summer. See who is on our team HERE. If interested, please CONTACT US.

Our friends at Denver Sister Cities International (Brest, France committee) participated in this year's Five Points Jazz Festival, did a fundraiser on Father's Day at the Dazzle jazz club, and coordinated travel and funding for a recent artist visit. Next is a private Asian Art Tour at the DAM on July 19 brought to you by the Kunming, China Committee. We look forward to working together again soon. Well done friends!
We join the DCIS community in celebrating all the flavors and joy of JUNETEENTH, PRIDE MONTH, and the SUMMER Solstice. Enjoy the season and cheers to all for a safe and wonderful summer ahead!
