With a historic June now behind us, we are in final planning mode for our major summertime events. First, a quick look back at last month – business re-opening was in full gear as many of our hospitality businesses were experiencing mid-summer level traffic.

Awards Grants to Eight Cape Ann Area Non-Profits and Community Organizations

Grants funded through the proceeds of Cape Ann license plate sales and renewals are being made to the following organizations and will help support the work they do for our community: CCB Foundation, Inc., Gloucester's City-Owned Cemeteries Advisory Committee, Gloucester Stage Company, NAMI Cape Ann, Rockport Council on Aging, Seaside Sustainability, Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Young Legends Street Hockey, Inc.

Tourism Council July Report

The Chamber's Tourism Council helps shape and guide our role in promoting Cape Ann as a premier visitor destination. The June meeting focused on how to best promote the region as a birders paradise during the Winter, Spring and Fall seasons. Other topics of discussion included upcoming Summer events on Cape Ann, updates on Grants that will help to promote the region, and the impacts of Right Whale protection measures on local lobstering, and an offshore wind farm proposal.

Government Affairs Council July Report

The Government Affairs Council leads the Chamber’s focus on economic development and public policy, one of our key platforms. In the June meeting, Essex's special events permitting policy was discussed along with outdoor dining, unemployment-related policy issues in addition to the planning of the Rockport Board of Selectmen Candidate Forum.

Advertising Opportunity with Gloucester Bio and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce
 
The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce is partnering with member Gloucester Bio regarding a new advertising opportunity on their Smart Hand Sanitizer Station. The Smart Sanitizer Station is currently featured in the Chamber Office and Visitor Center, which sees thousands of visitors a year. Cross Country Mortgage Ribbon Cutting & Grand Reopening Party

The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce and Cross Country Mortgage invite you to attend the grand reopening of Cross Country Mortgage on Main Street in Gloucester! The Chamber's 2021 Board of Directors along with the Chamber Team gathered outside at Shea’s Riverside Restaurant for our annual retreat where we discussed the strengths and areas of improvement for the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
2021 Rockport Board of Selectmen Candidate Forum

In preparation for the June 22 Rockport Board of Selectment Election, we held a candidate forum for the five candidates on the ballot. The forum was moderated by attorney Robert Visnick, hosted by Rockport Inn & suites and recorded by 1623 Studios.
2021 Annual Dinner Celebration

The Chamber welcomed over 160 Cape Ann business and community leaders and their guests, for a beautiful evening on our Nation’s oldest working waterfront. Hosted by Maritime Gloucester, the event honored our new and exiting Board of Directors, and formally welcomed Susan Gould Coviello as our 2021 Board President. A delicious dinner was provided by Burnham’s Catering, and local band Madhouse had the docks rocking!
Riverside Romp Presented by Cape Ann Botanicals & Cape Ann Cannabis

We celebrated the anniversary of Cape Ann Botanicals & Cannabis at their Riverside Romp event in Ipswich. Live music, delicious food by Riverview Pizza and beer from True North Ales were a couple of highlights from the event.
Business After Hours at Rockport Music's Shalin Liu Performance Center

For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the Chamber held an in-person Business After Hours networking event. Gathering at Rockport Music’s Shalin Liu Performance Center, our members were finally able to reconnect with friends and colleagues face-to-face, as well as meet new people and business owners. We also heard about all the amazing performances and events that are upcoming for the new reopened Shalin Liu.

Essex Heritage Boat Tours Begin This Weekend

Action Inc. Trades Employer Network and Advisory Committee

Action Inc. is growing their Trades Employer Network. When they have graduates of their Trades Gateway program, Action Inc. will send out an email to the network, letting employers know about the potential apprentice/employee. Additionally, employers in the network can also email Action Inc. their own job postings, which they will share with their students and graduates. If you would like to get further involved with this program, you can join the Trades Advisory Committee where members will share insights into current trades trends with Action Inc.’s Job Training staff. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, July 13 from 9am-10am. Email training@actioninc.org to sign up.
Cape Ann Seniors on the GO! Opening the Door to Food, Fitness and Fun

Cape Ann Seniors on the GO is an Age Friendly Communities initiative of Cape Ann Mass in Motion. This initiative aims to increase access to healthy food and physical activity opportunities by reducing transportation barriers for at risk older adults who reside in our four Cape Ann communities.

The Manchester-Essex Rotary Club is excited to announce that their annual red, white and blue pancake breakfast will take place this year at Tuck's Point! Our State Senator, Bruce Tarr, and State Representative, Brad Hill, will be on hand flipping pancakes.
