Francisco Magos left his job in December 2022 to care for his infant child. After securing childcare as a single father, he started working side jobs but couldn’t earn a family-sustaining wage.
In late June, Francisco found Rubicon Programs and enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program. Together with his career coach, Katherine Ocon, he developed his resume and searched for jobs. Francisco applied everywhere he was a match, providing daily updates to Katherine.
Persistence paid off, as Francisco started working as a warehouse associate in Oakley in late July. Now he is applying for WIOA tuition assistance, with his sights set on becoming a truck driver or electrician.
“Before I met Katherine, my career coach, I felt lost,” Francisco said. “I needed to get my life back on track, and I honestly did not know how to. Katherine has been helpful throughout my journey and always uplifted and motivated me. She works really fast and was able to help me secure a position within a month. Katherine told me a quote that keeps me motivated, ‘Nothing is real if you don’t believe in who you are.’”
