Provide dinner for the college students this semester!

During the school year, UKirk meets for dinner provided by church members followed by a discussion group. We hope you’ll consider signing up for a Sunday this semester!

Most nights, we expect about 15-20 students, and ask volunteers to bring a main dish, sides/salad, and dessert. UKirk will provide drinks, plates, and utensils. We would love for you to stay and have dinner with us, but understand if you just want to drop off the food.

If cooking for a group seems daunting, consider teaming up with your friends, Sunday school class, or other church group to share the responsibility. But, if you don’t consider yourself a chef, you can make a donation to the UKirk Meal Fund which is used throughout the semester for additional events. You may write a check to FPC Auburn, with "UKirk Meal Fund" written in the memo line.

Share your gifts in worship leadership this fall by signing up to be one of our lay readers! Members of all ages are encouraged to participate (parents may sign up with children or sign siblings up to read together.) You will be contacted by one of our pastors the week prior to your Sunday and provided with all of the liturgy and readings. Questions? Contact Kathy or Nick Reed: kreed@fpcauburn.org or nreed@fpcauburn.org

Don't forget that our third Wednesday night suppers will resume on August 16! Publix chicken and dessert will be provided - please bring a side dish to share if you are able. If you are coming straight from work, please just bring your appetite! Hope to see everyone there.

Help Our Garden Grow

The FPC Community Garden is an important part of our church’s mission in “loving God and our fellow human beings.” We build community and relationships among each other and work to serve the community at large through our bountiful harvests - every bit of food we harvest is donated to the Community Market!

OTHER NEEDS:

Sign Up for a Weekly Weeding Party Date

“Start at the Garden” - Gather friends or family to pull weeds at the garden. Bring gloves and tools. Then go do something fun together!

Daily Morning Waterings

Volunteers are needed to water on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Watering needs to happen before 10:00 a.m. and can be skipped if it rains. (Contact Katie Forster forster306@charter.net

Weekly Harvest and Deliver to Community Market

(Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings)

The Community Market is open for deliveries on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings. Plastic bags or bins can be used to take in produce. It is helpful if this person has knowledge about what/when to harvest. (Contact Katie Forster forster306@charter.net)

PCM Assists 82 Families During Second Quarter

The Presbyterian Community Ministry (PCM) provided financial and home repair and renovation assistance to 82 Lee County families during the second quarter of this year.

Total income for the quarter was $50,884; expenses were $40,997. Income included $9,850 from membership dues; $5,000 in donations; $6,000 in federal reimbursements for renovations; and $6,000 from our church’s Outreach Committee. Expenses included about $16,000 for utilities and about $14,000 for renovations.

Among those whom PCM helped last quarter were

• Lois, who was transferred by her company to work in Lee County but found that her job had been given to someone else after she had arrived and found housing. PCM paid her power bill while she was searching for another job.

• Joshua, whose permanent illness forced him to apply for social security, which requires an extended waiting period. Because his wife was needed at home to care for him and can work only part-time, they could not pay their rent on time and were facing eviction. PCM helped them to get caught up.

• Geneva, whose plumbing problem caused dirty water to drain into her backyard. Because she lives frugally on $900 a month, she could not afford to pay for the necessary repairs. PCM provided a plumber and funds for needed renovations.

Donations of any amount from our church members are always welcome. Those who wish to make a gift to PCM should send their checks to PCM, 143 East Thach Avenue, Auburn, AL 36830. Those wishing to become individual annual members ($250) or family members ($300) should send their checks to the same address.
