 NEW  FIERCE AND FEARLESS

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, UH Maui College and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Maui Branch presents Fierce and Fearless: Book Discussion of the first biography of Maui-born and raised Congresswoman Patsy Mink, the champion of Title IX legislation which gave equal rights to women in federally-funded educational programs. Co-author Judy Wu will lead the discussion in-person with Patsy Mink's daughter Gwendolyn Mink live streaming.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 expanded opportunities for women and girls in sports and in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields and improved protections for pregnant and parenting students in our community. We will discuss Patsy Mink’s efforts as she fought to enact Title IX and also the current need to strengthen and vigorously enforce all aspects of Title IX to protect students’ civil rights to ensure inclusive, empowering, intergenerational and intersectional equality for all people living in Maui Nui and beyond.

Tuesday, June 21st from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, ‘Ike Le‘a 144. In person and online access available.

Register here to Attend: Fierce & Fearless Book Discussion, 6-21-22 RSVP

 IMPORTANT UPDATE  SUMMER ON CAMPUS

The State of Hawaiʻi is currently experiencing a surge of COVID cases and we want to do all we can to ensure the health and safety of our campus community. Please consider the following to help prevent the spread of the virus:

If you know you have been exposed or you begin to experience symptoms, please get tested (PCR or at-home antigen test) before returning to campus or any UHMC facility, no matter your vaccination status.

If returning from personal or university-approved, out-of-state travel, it is strongly recommended that you take a COVID test (PCR or at-home antigen test) within two days of return to the State and BEFORE returning to a UHMC campus or facility. It is also strongly recommended that you take a follow up test on day five after your return.

Hawaiʻi COVID-19 Testing Sites (includes free options)

Free at-home COVID-19 tests

Everyone is strongly recommended to be up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination that includes receiving the 1st booster shot, and 2nd booster shot, if eligible. CDC tool to determine when or if you can get one or more COVID-19 boosters.

If you are coming to campus this summer, please review the in-person COVID-19 protocols below. For complete UH guidance, please go to https://maui.hawaii.edu/health-center/coronavirus-update/

Face masks are now required indoors on our campus except when working alone or separated from others by at least six feet. Restoration of this practice, consistent with current CDC recommendations, was recommended by UH medical and public health experts and the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Health and affirmed by UH leadership.

Campus officials may further specify areas where face masks are required to enhance safety.

The indoor face mask requirement will remain in place and be re-evaluated when the level of COVID-19 transmission in the state decreases. All members of the UH community should continue to monitor your hawaii.edu email and UHNews.org for updates.

For those returning to campus after quarantine or isolation, face masks must be worn around others in all settings – including outdoors – for the remainder of the 10-day period.

If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home and isolate for at least 5 days (until you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your symptoms are improving).

Full or Up-to-date vaccination is required for employees and students in specific UH programs or courses (medical, nursing, social work, dental hygiene, etc.) where they are embedded within partner institutions that require vaccination.

We strongly recommended that you stay home when feeling ill, whether with COVID-19 or not, to recover and prevent community spread.

You can get a COVID test at the Campus Health Center. You must schedule an appointment by calling at 984-3493. If you have medical insurance, please bring your medical card and ID when you come for testing. But you do not need medical insurance to get a test. The testing is free.
