The First Sunday of Advent
November 27, 2022
Greetings!

This weekend's article is presented by Father Ritche:

Every year, we publish a finance report to the parish. As you will read in this report for the fiscal year, 2021-2022, we have continued to maintain our parish facilities and operations. In an effort to offset the rising costs we all experience, the parish has tightened its belt through conservative and judicious spending. Happily, the overall financial picture is stable – one that provides the ability to celebrate and share our faith.

Weekday Mass: 8:30 AM

Saturday: Confession: 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
Vigil Mass: 5:00 PM

Sunday Masses: 9:30am, 11:30am and 6:00pm

Giving Tuesday, November 29th

On this Giving Tuesday, don’t forget that gifts to Holy Spirit are tax-deductible. Also, keep in mind that a gift to Holy Spirit can be made from your retirement account and may positively affect your RMD (required minimum distribution). Please check with your financial advisor!

Lastly, to those who pledged in the 2022 ADA Appeal and have not completed their payments, we kindly ask you to do so by year’s end. The parish will not receive any rebate until pledges are paid in full.

As always, we thank you for your support and kind generosity!

Your Generosity Makes a Difference!

We want to thank our parishioners who donated to Sacred Heart's Turkeys and Tarps drive. Your generosity and kindness has helped us raise $9,000!
Parish Children’s Choir at Holy Spirit!

Our music ministry extends an invitation to parish youth who would like to join our children’s choir! Any child 3rd grade and up is eligible to join us. The children’s choir sings every 2nd Sunday of the month at the 11:30am Mass, and rehearsals will take place on the Tuesday prior to that Sunday. Our next rehearsal in preparation for Sunday liturgy will be on Tuesday, December 6 from 3-4pm in the church.

For more info, contact Tim Mascarinas, director of music at timothy.mascarinas@dsj.org or (408) 997-5107.
Mass of Renewal – Curtis Stephan

Starting on November 26-27, we will switch our mass setting from Ed Bolduc’s “Mass of Saint Ann” to “Mass of Renewal” by Curtis Stephan for the Advent and Christmas season. It is common for music ministries to swap mass settings multiple times throughout the year. There are plenty of considerations made when we switch to a different mass setting. From a musical perspective, choosing different mass settings presents an opportunity to learn how other composers interpret the Gloria, Holy, Lamb of God, etc.

Composers may create a mass setting based on their own church’s needs or for a specific liturgical season as well. In my view, the ability to present various mass settings throughout the calendar year at Holy Spirit is a testament to the strength and flexibility of our parish community. We will sing the Alleluia, Holy, When We Eat This Bread, Amen, and Lamb of God from Stephan’s “Mass of Renewal.” Click here for a YouTube playlist that you can listen to at home.
Gift of Opportunity

Holy Spirit Church is once again excited to offer our community the opportunity to give the gift of lasting change! This Christmas, we invite you to share joy by giving opportunity in rural Nicaragua by gifting in your name, your loved ones, friends, co-worker, or company. Your generosity and support will bless a child, family, or an entire community. Whether it’s the health of a family, their economic development, or education, your support will have a lasting impact.

Over the past 10+ years, hundreds of Holy Spirit community volunteers and missionaries work alongside Amigos For Christ staff in Nicaragua. We are planning for next year’s trip for June 2023. Check out our website for more details.
This year, gifts are being offered in three areas: Education, Water & Healthy Living and Economic Development. Choose from sponsoring a scholarship student for a year, building clean-air kitchens to eliminate a major source of respiratory issues, funding microloans for families to create sustainable sources of income, and many more options.

These incredible projects are made possible by YOUR COMPASSION and GENEROSITY! Your donations help break the cycle of poverty and transform life in Nicaragua!

How it Works:

1. You purchase Gifts of Opportunity on behalf of your friends and family members by either:

• Stopping by the Gifts of Opportunity table outside of church after any mass between 12/3 – 12/18 and meet some of our incredible volunteers who will share their stories, and tell you firsthand how your gift will MAKE A DIFFERENCE this Christmas!

• Visiting our website.

2. Your loved ones receive a beautiful card and keepsake ornament that explains the impact of their gift.

3. Families or communities in Nicaragua receive opportunities that will change their lives forever.

Corporate Matching Programs accepted • Donations are tax deductible

The responses will help inform how our diocese serves God's people in the coming years. The survey is available in English, Spanish or Vietnamese.
