Call for Submission into Metabolites Special Issue "The UC Davis West Coast Metabolomics Center Collection: From Compound Identification to Discoveries in Metabolism"

We here invite papers on research products that have been performed in collaboration with the WCMC faculty members or using the WCMC service core for data acquisition. We will highlight the many facets of our research, covering method development, informatics, basic biology, and biomedical applications. Topic areas range from fundamentals in compound identification to data normalization, and statistics, to various applications in biology and biomedicine. Applications include studies on human glioblastoma, sexual dimorphisms of mouse knockouts, gut microbiome studies, and others. Submissions of manuscripts focusing on the function and regulation of lipids are especially welcome.

Deadline: August 17, 2023

Bits & Bites # 05: Identification of unknown compounds in untargeted metabolomics using freely available software

Sept. 7, 2023 @ 9 am - 5 pm PT

Instructor: Dr. Arpana Vaniya, UC Davis

About this course:

  • Compound identification is a bottleneck in metabolomics.
  • Approaches to tackle this challenge: mass spectral library search, in silico fragmentation tools, and database searching.
  • Short course overview: Current status of compound ID in metabolomics.
  • Learn to use freely available in silico fragmentation tools: MS-FINDER and SIRIUS+CSI: FingerID, web-based tools like MetFrag and CFM-ID.
  • Apply learned skills to unknown challenges.
