Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

Last night, we celebrated a successful prom at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Our Sea Kings were Dancing in the Moonlight and had an amazing night with their friends enjoying great music, food, and activities. A special thank you to our ASB students and Mrs. Maxfield for planning this evening. We can only make events like this happen with the support of our teacher and staff chaperones. Let's give a big thank you to these chaperones who gave up their Saturday night to hang out with our Sea Kings!

Ms. Palosaari, Ms. Parkinson, Ms. Klabe, Ms. Brockman,

PVHS Students Compete as Finalists in the International Science Fair

Congratulations to Andreas Tempereau, Christine Xie, Anna Peti-Peterdi, Lena Peresztegi and Daniel Peresztegi for competing at the international ISEF Science Fair in Dallas this week! These PVHS Science researchers competed against students from 64 other countries. There were a total of 1638 finalists competing in 1324 projects. Our students presented their research to judging panels, participated in a pin exchange, and made friends with researchers from all around the world.

It is a huge honor to be called up on stage and awarded at this international level! The following PVHS students were recognized:

Andreas Tempereau has been a finalist at the International Science Fair multiple times as a Sea King. He is truly a science research legend.

Christine Xie was recognized with a special award from the University of Arizona.

The team of Anna Peti-Peterdi, Lena Peresztegi and Daniel Peresztegi were awarded 3rd place in Cellular and Molecular Biology!

We are so proud of our Science Researchers and how well they represent Palos Verdes High School at an international level. Amazing job, Sea Kings!

Sea King Art Students Get Inspired by Modern Art in Downtown LA

This past Friday, the Visual & Performing Arts and AP Art History students visited Downtown Los Angeles for a jam-packed day of art and artistic expression.

First, students attended the Momix Modern Dance Performance of Alice in Wonderland at the Ahmanson Theater. Next they visited the Broad Museum of Modern Art and the Colburn School of Music. After a quick lunch at the Grand Central Market, they concluded their trip with an exploration of the Arts District.

We are fortunate to have such an incredible arts program at PVHS that is willing to set up these field trips throughout the year for our students to experience different mediums of art to teach and inspire them. Our Sea King art students had a powerful real-world art experience giving them the opportunity to make connections with what they had studied in their classes this year.

A very special thanks to Mrs. Jiminez and Ms. Warren for helping organize and chaperone the event!

Palos Verdes Peninsula Summer School (PVPSS) is excited to get started in June! Our program offers both onsite and online courses for advancement, all of which are WASC/UC/CSU/NCAA approved. We also have an incredible College Application Prep (CAP) workshop for incoming seniors, which does not involve grades or credits. CAP is run by Kelly Baranick, PVPHS head counselor, as well as Tim Hall, PVPHS language arts instructor and 2023 Teacher of the Year. Under their leadership, each student creates a balanced college list and writes outstanding college essays, which makes the entire process less stressful and more successful.

Registration closes on Friday, June 2nd at 5pm.

Please view the flyer below and go to pvpss.com for details. Also, feel free to contact help@pvpss.com with any questions/concerns, as we're always glad to help.

State and AP Testing in April and May

The testing season is upon us! Our Juniors will be participating in state testing in Science, English, and Math and our AP students of all grades will participate in their subject area AP tests. The full testing schedule is below for your reference.

The State of California assesses schools by testing 11th-grade students in Science, English, and Math. A school's scores on these tests are a major factor in determining a school's ranking, which some colleges look at when they are considering students for admission. Thus, a strong performance on the SBAC ELA, Math, and CAST Tests is absolutely pivotal in keeping our California school ranking strong and giving our students the best chance with admission at the top colleges and universities.

Please join PVHS Staff in encouraging our students to prepare and do their best on these upcoming tests and to Go for the Green, the highest school ranking a school can achieve on the CAASPP tests.

For information on opting out of state tests for 11th-grade students,
