From the Director's Desk...
|
Have you ever heard the expression Dog Days of August? I have, and I understood it to mean the very, very hot days that you wouldn't want to be outside for too long. The kind of day that makes the asphalt melt, and one wish for cool, and green, and shady spots! We seem not to have Dog Days only in August anymore; we had some in May, June, and July this year. What I used to do was grab a book. Then I would find a tree that had a really good shady area underneath it. I would hope I was hidden enough not to be found, too. I would sit and read that book for hours until my mother's voice would make its way into my conscious, calling my name. I would be scolded for disappearing and given a few extra chores. I always felt it was worth it...I'd just spent hours with the characters in a book. These characters felt like old friends and spending time with friends, well what can be better than that? As we approach the Dog Days my advice is to find a good shady spot, settle down, and read.
And if you don't feel like reading, check out what we have happening at the library! We even have a brand-new awning, with a lot of shade. Come enjoy a program under it.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
