Tiffin City Schools Celebrates the Unveiling of New Tennis Courts

The rain held off yesterday afternoon just in time to celebrate the unveiling of Tiffin City Schools' new tennis courts. Tiffin City Schools unveiled five new tennis courts replacing the five that were in serious disrepair. The last full renovation took place in 1987. The courts, new from the ground up, also have an upgraded viewing area with an improved concrete surface.

D2 Excavating of Vickery, OH was the general contractor. Subcontractors included Courtsmiths, M & B Asphalt, and Petty Group. Garmann Miller was the architect for the project. View more pictures of the ribbon cutting here.

Tiffin University Launches LIFE@TU

This fall, Tiffin University will launch LIFE@TU, a weekly educational program designed for people ages 50 plus to learn about a variety of subjects.

Starting September 8, sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in Osceola Theatre, located on TU's campus in Gillmor Student Center. Ten non-credit classes will be held per semester, with topics covering a wide range of themes that include history, architecture and restoration, science, nature, technology, arts and literature, culture and diversity, local events, community connections, travel, ethics and more. Courses will be taught by current and retired faculty from both Tiffin University and Heidelberg University, as well as guest speakers. Topics for future semesters will be determined through the input of LIFE@TU members.

Registered attendees may enjoy a number of perks, including discounted lunches on class days at Cole Dining Hall, free access to athletic events and campus activities, preferred seating at theater and music performances and more.

An annual membership, good for 20 classes, is $150 per person with semester and individual passes available. Sign up by August 19 for an early-bird-discounted rate of $140. Attendees may sign up online by visiting tiffin.edu/academics/lifetu.

They are also looking speaker sponsors, refreshment sponsors and/or scholarship sponsors from local businesses to assist with the growth of the program. Businesses can sponsor at https://ow.ly/hlXP50PuWxk.

Happy Feature Friday, where every Friday the Chamber team will highlight one of our fantastic members by repping them for the day and telling the community more about them. This week's Feature Friday is: Bair Bros!

Located at 28 South Washington Street in Downtown Tiffin, Bair Bros has been a community staple for generations! Russ and Deb Gharis purchased Bair Bros in 2022 and have upheld the tradition of excellent service with quality products. Russ has been working at Bair Bros. since 1995 and after taking over ownership, has continued to show the utmost dedication care to their customers and community.

A lot has changed since their opening in 1903, but one thing hasn’t their commitment to their customers and their willingness to provide them the best service possible. Many high school students in our community have fond memories of picking up their letterman jacket from the store. Bair Bros. is a one-stop shop for letterman jackets, where they do all the embroidery and sew the patches with a chain stitch pattern, a technique that they have been using for more than 75 years.

The awards have been a good benefit for Bair Bros., but a lot of changes have occurred over the years. The store has kept up with the changes and can virtually create any concept a customer may have through their state-of-the-art laser engraving equipment. Customers often walk in the door looking for something they can’t find somewhere else; whether that be spirit gear for the local school districts, screen printing, general sporting goods or leveraging Russ’s graphic design skills to bring their idea to life.

Bair Bros. has something for everyone. From the athlete to the supportive community member, they are ready to help find the perfect fit, style, and brand for all your needs. As the school year approaches and sports seasons begin to kick back in, you will not want to miss out on all they have to offer. Stop in and say hello!
