An Event-Filled Week
Greetings on Saturday evening. We are enjoying a quiet weekend after a very busy week. The annual Men’s Event was held on Wednesday night, back at Morton’s on Connecticut Avenue after a two-year pandemic absence. The evening was filled with high energy, and we raised a lot of money. It was a prelude to a very busy Thursday. I worked all morning, and then had a particularly busy clinic that afternoon; three of my patients had recently diagnosed progression of their cancers, and I had to have some sadly familiar conversations with them.

Raising Awareness and Cancer Research Funding at the 22nd Annual Men’s Event
|
|
This year’s Men’s Event took place on Wednesday, November 16, at Morton’s The Steakhouse D.C. As in years past, the event included a cancer briefing by speakers including Georgetown Lombardi Director Lou Weiner, MD, a live auction, and dinner by Morton’s. Over its 22 years, the Men’s Event has raised close to $2.5 million to support cancer research funding at Georgetown Lombardi for the most prevalent types of men’s cancers.

NEW Breast Cancer Research Foundation Precision Prevention Initiative
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is requesting applications to its Precision Prevention Initiative. Applications should address the challenges and gaps in primary breast cancer prevention with a focus in one or more of the following categories: risk assessment/stratification, biomarkers, and interventions. Applicants are encouraged to engage collaborators from diverse disciplines and utilize, where possible, areas of expertise and/or methodologies not normally associated with prevention or cancer research. Projects range from single investigator innovation awards to collaborative pre-clinical, translational, clinical and intervention studies. In all cases, projects that impact underserved, minority or high-risk populations are encouraged. Funding levels range from $250,000/year for two years up to $750,000/year for three years. Download the RFA to view program and application details. Letters of intent deadline: January 16, 2023, via ProposalCentral. Invitation to submit full proposals issued by March 3, 2023.
