St. John's Mission Statement

St. John's is a Christian community that intentionally gathers

to experience God's love through Episcopal worship, education,

fellowship, and ministry to the wider community.

A Prayer for Peace Among the Nations (BCP 816)

Let us pray in this time of conflict for the countries of Russia and the Ukraine,

Almighty God our heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world

into the way of justice and truth, and establish among them

that peace which is the fruit of righteousness,

that they may become the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN FOR 2023

More Than Enough, is the theme for our campaign this year, bringing us back to that miracle described in Luke’s Gospel, having just been fed by Jesus from a scant few loaves and fishes. The people in that story heard Jesus’ call to share what they had in order that all might benefit. That is what you do when we share our gifts of wisdom, works and wealth in order to minister to our parish and the broader community - there will be more than enough.

Please complete a pledge card by Sunday, November 20th.

We will bless all of the cards of stewardship received during our Sunday liturgy.

If you would like to access the pledge card electronically, please click the link below:

FELLOWSHIP

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

Daughters of the King Service of Admission

Liliana Morales was received and admitted as a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.

St. Margaret of Scotland

Yesterday, Wednesday, November 16th, was the feast day of St. Margaret (Queen) of Scotland who is the patron saint of our

Daughters of the King Chapter here at St. John’s. According to Holy Women, Holy Men, she was an English princess married to King Malcolm III of Scotland around 1070. She sought to change old-fashioned and careless practices among the Scottish clergy. In addition, Margaret encouraged the founding of schools, hospitals, and orphanages, and used her influence with King Malcolm to improve the quality of life among the isolated Scottish clans. Together, they rebuilt the monastery of Iona and founded Dunfermline Abbey, under the direction of Benedictine Monks.

Margaret was a conscientious wife and mother of eight children. She spent a lot of her time in prayer, devotional reading, ecclesiastical embroidery, and also saw to the spiritual welfare of her large household, providing servants with the opportunity for regular worship and prayer.

Just like Margaret’s example of devotion to Christ, Daughters of the King are graced by the Holy Spirit to pray, serve, and make Jesus Christ known to others.

Cold Hands and Cold Feet

There are at least one thousand field workers on the farms in Yuma, migrants from Mexico, who need both physical and emotional warmth. These workers are people on the margins who are often overlooked during the holidays. The deacons have resoundingly agreed to support these workers by gifting them with hats, gloves, and socks, a small thank you for all the hard work they provide in growing the food for our tables. But the deacons can’t do this alone.
