Advance gender equity
for women and girls at Lobby Days 2023
March 13 to March 15
We will meet legislators face to face after two years of virtual lobbying due to the pandemic.
The AAUW Florida Public Policy Committee is working now to establish the 2022-2023 legislative agenda and planning a Lobby Day experience that will focus on public policy priorities: economic security, education and civil rights.
Strength in numbers.
- Meeting legislators in person is an effective and exciting way to make sure they understand AAUW positions on our priority issues. And there’s strength in numbers. If every branch sent representatives to lobby, our case would be more powerful. Please start now to assemble a group from your branch.
- We realize it is a commitment of time and money, so AAUW Florida will offer a small stipend to help offset travel costs. Stipend: graduated scale ($50-$80) depending on your driving distance plus $50 to help with lodging. This is to help with expenses, not cover all of them.
Schedule: Our Lobby Days are planned near the start of the 2023 legislative sessions, which runs from March 7 to May 5.
-
AAUW advocates should plan to arrive in Tallahassee on Monday night, March 13, for a short meeting in preparation for our visit to the capitol on Tuesday, March 14.
-
A Pre-Lobby Day Legislative Agenda/Public Policy Discussion and training session will be conducted, 2 March 2023 @ 7:00 p.m. prior to our departure for Tallahassee, addressing the “who, what, when, where, why and how of Lobby Days.” Please register for this Zoom event even if you will not be attending lobby days for information on how to advance gender equity through advocacy.
You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
When: Mar 2, 2023 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Let's Set the Goal and Make It!
Our donations to AAUW National are based on a calendar year for tax purposes, not our fiscal year. So January is the time to make our annual plan for raising funds for AAUW National. We recommend that members and branches contribute to the Greatest Needs Fund, although there are other funds to which one can contribute: AAUW Funds. And our goal is that every branch in Florida contribute $750. Several branches donate much more than that; a few branches do not have that ability, but let’s set the goal and see if we can make it!
|
|
Why the Greatest Needs Fund?
We believe the Greatest Needs Fund is important because AAUW National already has one hundred million dollars in Scholarships and Fellowships, gathered over the years. But so many issues around women’s rights are cropping up, in need of response. Issues that affect us like the pay gap, supporting Title IX, the Me Too! movement, sexual harassment, the motherhood penalty, are all clamoring for support, and the Greatest Needs Fund is AAUW National’s way of garnering our support for those issues.
|
|
If we want AAUW to be a leader in advocating for changes for women in school, women workers, women at home and women in retirement, the Greatest Needs Fund is the donation of choice.

Funding for Branch Programs and Projects
Does your branch have an idea for an AAUW mission-based program or project that requires funding to carry it to fruition? Apply for an AAUW FL Project Grant! Grants are available from $100 to $500 to advance the AAUW-FL mission and/or provide opportunities for women and girls to achieve their full potential.
Any AAUW-FL branch may submit a proposal that has direct community impact and follows the stated purposes, and any two branches working together can apply for up to $1500. The last deadline of this year for applications is March 1, with final approval at the March 23 state Board meeting.
