A prayer of Julian of Norwich
In You, Father Almighty, we have our preservation and our bliss.
In You, Christ, we have our restoring and our saving. You are our mother, brother, and savior.
In You, our Lord the Holy Spirit, is marvelous and plenteous grace.
You are our clothing; for love You wrap us and embrace us.
You are our maker, our lover, our keeper.
Teach us to believe that by Your grace all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

A Message from Our President, Diane McGeoch
WELCOME, GATHER, SHARE, AND SEND
I want to thank Linda Staats for leading a workshop for the Northwest Intermountain Synod (Eastern Washington and Idaho) on May14th in Burley, Idaho. This was one of three Regional Gatherings that Linda facilitated for our Synod. We meet at Synod Assembly every other year, and this was the year for Regional Gatherings. The invitation to these gatherings, based on Acts 16: 1-15, was this: Striving to listen to where the Holy Spirit might be leading, acting with courage to follow, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. WOW!
The four words above were the order for the day. They are very close to our actions in worship: Gather, The Word, The Meal, and Sending. If we reflect on these four movements, and the invitation which was used to prepare us for the Regional Gatherings, we have the essence of the many movements and invitations as part of our ministries as faith formation leaders. We listen, we act, we share, and we go where the Holy Spirit is leading. All of this takes courage, prayer, discernment, living out God’s call, being in the Body of Christ, and many other qualities and movements.

Title: Necessary Risks: Challenges Privileged People Need to Face
Author: Teri McDowell Ott
Reviewed by: Teresa Kaldor, CENetwork of the ELCA
How can we challenge ourselves to take steps in bringing about social justice in the face of our fears? How can we break down barriers and eliminate the boundaries that have been erected? In her new book, Necessary Risks, the Reverend Dr. Teri McDowell Ott provides personal insights into this struggle as she relates her own transformational journey as a Christian White privileged woman learning to take risks in uncomfortable settings.
Ott defines the issue of privilege early in the book. She is upfront about her concept of privilege; it is an “unearned advantage that might or might not include inherited wealth, networks, and connections.” (p. 12) It does not mean that Whites don’t have to struggle, but it does mean that there are certain factors like race with which they don’t have to deal, and this changes the dynamics of the life they lead.
