Spring Newsletter 2023
From the Desk of Julie
Dear Friend,

I wanted to share with you that our National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC), continually advocates for the work we do and the patients we serve. Keeping our voices heard in Washington is very important. Each March, NAHC provides an advocacy opportunity for all states to meet with their legislators in Washington. Part of my role is to participate in these activities, so the NH voice is heard.

Last week I attended the March on Washington event in DC. I met with the Congressional offices of Representative Chris Pappas, Representative Annie Kuster, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, and Senator Maggie Hassan. We discussed reimbursement reform, advocating that they stop the cuts to Home Health Care. The proposed cut for 2024 is 10%. We discussed the nursing shortage and the need for solutions before it becomes worse than it is today. Other topics discussed were Hospice oversight, end of life care and our aging population in NH. All our meetings with our delegation were positive. They understand the work that we do in the Home Health and Hospice sector and how important our work is in our communities.

Happy Spring and as always, we are here for you, wherever you call home!

Healthcare Heroes Through History - Did You Know?
As we continue our 110 year anniversary celebration and recognition of our healthcare heroes through history, journey back with us to 1933, the VNA had been providing much needed services to patients for 20 years in Rochester. During this time, Mrs. Celia Young and Mrs. Violet Bliskey (seen here) were very active public health nurses, going above and beyond to provide care at home as evidenced by numerous news articles published throughout the decade.

Mental Health Matters

The DMHA “Place” designation reflects our efforts to support our employees, colleagues, and customers’ mental health and creates a culture that understands, embraces and addresses the complexities of mental health.

Here is a springtime tip from our Behavioral Health Team.

Spring is in the air! Spring is all about new beginnings and transformations; it's a season that symbolizes starting fresh and starting over. Spring is one of the most powerful seasons of the year as it is brimming with psychological themes of renewal, re-birth and life. These themes form the basis for healing and sustaining emotions of optimism and hope. Spring is the most "hopeful" of all the seasons.

Team members can come walk a few laps, support those that were touched by cancer, visit with other team members. During the evening teams will be walking along the luminarias that will light up the track to honor every life that was touched by cancer. Dedicate a luminaria to an individual that is battling cancer, has overcome cancer, or was lost to cancer and you want to honor their memory. If you would like a donation to go towards a luminaria please reach out to Danielle Perron our team captain.
