Mosquito and Tick Safety
Mosquitoes and ticks are a summer annoyance and pose serious risks to your health. Mosquitoes can transmit diseases like the West Nile virus while ticks are carriers of Lyme disease and other illnesses. To safeguard you and your family it is important to stay informed about the prevention and safety measures. Simple precautions can help reduce risk and provide for a safe and enjoyable Summer.

To minimize exposure and protect yourself and your family:
  • Eliminate standing water. Regularly empty and clean containers that collect water, such as flowerpots, birdbaths, and gutters. Be sure to keep swimming pools treated and maintained.
  • Use insect repellent. Apply an EPA-approved insect repellent to exposed skin and clothing. For mosquitoes use a repellant containing DEET and picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. For ticks, use a repellant containing DEET or permethrin. Always follow the written instructions for safe and effective use.
  • Dress appropriately. Long sleeves, long pants, and socks can minimize exposed skin. To prevent mosquitos, light-colored clothing is also recommended as they are attracted to dark colors. In tall grass or wooded areas, tucking pants into socks or close-toed shoes can create a barrier from ticks.
  • Perform regular tick checks after spending time outdoors. A thorough body check is crucial, paying close attention to the scalp, neck, armpits, and groin areas. Promptly remove any ticks with tweezers, grasping them as close to the skin as possible.
  • Monitor and report. Inform local health departments of any mosquito and tick concerns so that they can identify problem areas and implement effective control measures.
Conservancy Corner
Summer is here and it is essential to prioritize the preservation of the village's natural beauty. A significant aspect of this is the proper maintenance of the conservancy zones located on many properties. These designated areas of native vegetation play a crucial role in supporting wildlife habitats and contribute to the environment's overall health.

According to the Village Code, conservancy zones must be kept in a natural state, with minimal interference. Mowing or removing vegetation is prohibited, except when addressing invasive species or ensuring public safety by the removal of hazardous trees. Any alterations within these zones require approval from the Village's Conservancy and Scenic Corridor Committee.

By diligently maintaining conservancy zones, residents contribute to the preservation of Long Grove's natural beauty and the protection of local wildlife habitats. The Village of Long Grove offers resources and guidance to residents needing assistance with invasive species removal or questions about conservancy zone maintenance.
Report all suspicious behavior to the police: 847-549-5200
Report Suspicious Activity:
As responsible members of the community, it is important to promptly report any suspicious activity to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. By being proactive and sharing information we contribute to the overall safety and well-being of our neighborhood.

Solicitor Permit Requirements:
With exceptions for religious and political organizations solicitors are required to obtain permits from Village Hall, This permitting ensures that solicitors are verified and authorized to conduct door-to-door activities. Everyone should know this requirement and politely request permits from solicitors approaching their homes. If a solicitor doesn't provide a valid permit, exercise caution and report the incident to the village authorities.
Clear out the Closets Recycle with SWALCO

In an effort to promote sustainability and responsible waste management, Long Grove, in collaboration with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO), has established a clothing recycling bin in the Archer Lots, adjacent to the Long Grove Fire Protection District Station.

This initiative encourages residents to recycle their clothing and textiles, diverting them from landfills and giving them a new lease on life. Let’s embrace this opportunity to make a positive impact while contributing to the collective effort of Long Grove's commitment to sustainability.
Updates from the Village Board
