All of these sessions are indexed together by using “Climate Empowerment” in the title, so you can easily search for them on the AGU system.

Please consider submitting an abstract to the Fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU)! The deadline to submit is by EOD Wednesday August 2nd, 2023. This year, the Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN) related AGU Sessions include:

  1. ED008 - Climate Empowerment: Effective Strategies to Advance Climate and Resilience Education in K-12 and Informal Learning Contexts
  2. ED009 - Climate Empowerment: Teaching Climate Across the Curriculum

Please note there will also be a CLEAN Poster session (ED007 - Climate Empowerment: Climate Education Initiatives).

NOAA’s SOS Explorer App

The NOAA Science On a Sphere team released an update for the SOS Explorer™ (SOSx) mobile app! SOS Explorer is an engaging and accessible tool for visualizing all types of Earth Science data. The update includes bug fixes and gives users access to both Spanish, and Simplified and Classical Chinese languages.

The Golden State Pathways Project

For the first time, California’s career education efforts are highlighting climate pathways as a priority area, in a new $500M project called the “Golden State Pathways Program (GSPP)." This funding will spur the creation and development of pathways in “high-wage, high-skill, high-growth areas, including… climate-related fields that allow pupils to advance seamlessly from high school to college and career and provide the workforce needed for economic growth.” 


The state will roll out applications by November 2023.

Scottish Learning for Sustainability

Scotland's learning for sustainability action plan 2023 to 2030 "Target 2030: A movement for people, planet and prosperity " aims to build an inspiring movement for change so every 3 to 18 place of education becomes a sustainable learning setting by 2030.


They invite every child and young person, adult learner, educator, parent, leader and decision-maker to be active agents of change within their own communities and contexts, to support and inspire others and to share their progress.

Opportunities

The Sam and Mary Lawrence Foundation’s Sea2Earth Fund

The Sam and Mary Lawrence Foundation’s Sea2Earth Fund will provide up to $50,000 in small grants to 501c3 nonprofit organizations that support the Sea2Earth Fund's goals to connect youth and adults to nature through immersive experiences that inspire caring and stewardship.


If you are interested in applying to Sea2Earth's funding opportunity, please send a brief Letter of Interest by the LOI deadline, Friday, September 10, 2023 which responds to the LOI outline found on the Sea2Earth Website, or here.

Presentation Opportunity at AMS Annual Meeting

The American Meteorological Society’s 33rd Conference on Education will be held January 28 - February 1, 2024 in Baltimore, MD. Please consider submitting an abstract to the following climate education session:

Council on Environmental Quality Internship Program

CEQ interns provide critical research and writing assistance on a range of environmental policies. CEQ offers part-time (16 – 34 hours per week) and full-time (minimum 35 hours per week) internships. This is a paid internship and it is in person in Washington, D.C.


CEQ may consider applications from prospective interns on a rolling basis. However, applicants are encouraged to abide by the following dates and deadlines:

  • Summer session (May-August): Last Friday in February
  • Fall session (September-December): Last Friday in June
  • Spring session (January-April): Last Friday in October

Climate and Equity Summer Workshop

When: Jul 30 – Aug 5, 2023

Where: Cambridge, MA

Description: At an all expenses paid intensive on climate and equity education in Acadia national park, high school teachers will explore the inequitable impacts of climate change, and leave with a renewed sense of hope and purpose about making a difference.
