Walk Worthy

Worthy

Worthy is a small little word used quite often in a casual manner to recognize whether  something or even someone is worthy or not:  worthy of attention, worthy of help, worthy of significance, worthy of acceptance or even worthy of acknowledgement,  etc.  But what does worthy really mean?  Is it a justified determination based on our own set of marked values and evaluations? Or is worthy a word that is set aside for someone who represents truth, character, goodness, and who makes every effort to live by a Christian lifestyle that represents God’s calling for us as believers.

Everyday we have the opportunity to be one of God’s  worthy disciples by reaching out and serving others through our words,  deeds, love and prayers.  But for us to be recognized by God and by othes as worthy, we have  to be committed to God and his ways and his indwelling spirit. For God’s spirit that drweels within each believer is our navigator of all aspects of our walk. We are called to abide in righteous living with gracious actions.

Ephesians 4:5

In order to be worthy of our calling, we are to walk in humility of heart and gentleness of spirit, showing tolerance to one another and godly patience - as we walk in love, bear one another's burdens, and strive to preserve in the unity of the Spirit, in the bond of peace. To be worthy of our calling, we are to walk in humility of heart and gentleness of spirit, showing tolerance to one another and godly patience - as we walk in love, bear one another's burdens, and strive to preserve in the unity of the Spirit, in the bond of peace.

That is a huge ask for any of us, but the way I figure it is: if we are open to following the call that God has given to each of us to be HIS worthy disciples then he will gladly help us overcome  the life mazes of emotions and self-serving attitudes that trip us up and get us off track.  The more we call on God for help and guidance the more he will strengthen us and the stronger our faith will grow to be.

We are tempted to look at athletes, celebrities or star powered investors and big leaguers, etc.  as worthy of praise and admiration, but truly the only one who deserves our rightful praise and honor is God.  Only God truly merits honor and praise, but he graciously considers those who humbly serve him with wholehearted devotion to be worthy disciples.

God has given each of us fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…each to be shared and shown to others.  All of these are embedded in our hearts so that we can pour them onto others.  And as we do, that is when our worthy walk has stepped clearly into God’s plan. We are to minister to one another, edifying each other and speaking the truth in love. When we walk in a manner that is worthy of the calling with which we are called, with all humility, gentleness, patience, and tolerance for one another – in love,  this will keep us from being tossed about by every wind of unexpected seasons of life.

I can’t help but address the pit that we sometimes fall into thinking we are unworthy.  Something we have done or said or regretted that we have locked into mind and as a result has maybe made us feel anxious, unloved, unwanted, rejected, and lonely.  One thing we must always remember is that we are worthy always in Gods eyes.  He loves his children with an unchangeable, unconditional love that has no boundaries or records of wrong. To be able to walk worthy we must be able to ask for forgiveness and move on doing the best that God has called us to do and unto people who he puts in your path and mine.  Remember who you are.  God holds us up each day and declares that we are HIS….You are a child of a King. Don’t run from it…. embrace your identity.  God’s grace and mercy are sufficient for our everyday existence.

Philippians 4:8-9Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

I urge you to live in a way that is worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

Ephesians 4:1

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
