Over the weekend of October 9 and 10, two cities separated by 2,300 miles, one in the south and one in the west, one hockey event and one figure skating event had one thing in common….the goal to turn cancer upside down.
In Space Coast, Florida, hockey players united to support the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and our healthcare partner Moffitt Cancer Center. With 10 teams and over 70 skaters playing in a round robin-style tournament, the 3v3 event raised over $16,000 for cancer research focused on cutting-edge discoveries that can be rapidly translated into improved diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic advances for cancer treatment.
Just over 2,300 miles away, the skating community in Utah and surrounding states hosted Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Utah 2021, which included a frozen 5k and culminated in an Ice Show hosted by Scott Hamilton and featuring local amateur and world-class figure skaters. We are proud of the skating community for raising over $25,000 to fund research for our healthcare partner Huntsman Cancer Institute as they strive to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to provide education about cancer risk, prevention, and care.
Together, through events like these, we can share in our belief that new and innovative cancer treatment can and will save lives. When we lean in together, we can meet and defeat the challenge cancer presents and we will Sk8 towards a better future for anyone suffering from cancer.
