If you are NORTHWESTERN STARTUP with an active option or license and need space, apply to become a Q Resident HERE.

SUMMER VISITS AT THE Q

The InQbation Lab hosted Innovyz USA and General Inception this summer. Both firms are venture studios seeking to identify innovative technologies around which to build a founding team and inject financial resources for commercialization. Innovyz USA's focus is on sustainability and the circular economy. General Inception's interests range from synthetic biology, rare disease, and inflammation to general life science.

If you are NORTHWESTERN FACULTY and would like to participate in such meetings, speak with your Invention Manager at INVO to better understand the types and stage of technologies that are the best fit. We welcome your interest.

Q PROGRAM UPDATES

NM-Q MEDICAL DEVICE STUDIO

The NEW NM-Q Medical Device Studio is designed to enable clinicians (physicians, nurses or other healthcare providers) to move from "napkin drawings" to initial prototypes, facilitating initial conversations and interest among clinicians, industry partners and/or investors. The studio is supported by the Northwestern Medicine's Mansueto Innovation Institute and Northwestern's Querrey InQbation Lab.

Up to four (4) medical devices or tools will be selected. In collaboration with the clinician, NM-Q will engage with external prototyping firms to support the initial prototyping build. Up to $50k of funding will be allocated to each project. Applications are due by September 1, 2023.

Please contact Sonia Kim at sonia.kim@northwestern.edu or Kali Arduini at karduini@nm.org.

SBIR/STTR SUPPORT

Is your startup applying for SBIR/STTR funding, a non-dilutive source of seed funding for R&D efforts?

The FAST Center of IL offers free office hours to IL-based startups with their SBIR consultants. Any Northwestern startup is encouraged to request an appointment by completing this form.

In addition, the InQbation Lab has also hired Kris Parmelee from Parmelee Consulting to support a limited number of projects, either reviewing or writing SBIR/STTR grant proposals. If you are interested in this resource, submit a request through the button below.

Please note below that Kris Parmelee will give an SBIR/STTR 101 Talk on Wednesday, Sept 13.

2024 INVO PRACTICUM APPLICATION NOW OPEN

The INVO Practicum is an unpaid eight-month internship program (October through May) open to Northwestern graduate students and post-docs who are interested in learning about the university technology transfer process. Upon inquiry, rising undergraduate seniors who exhibit advanced STEM and/or business acumen through coursework or experience may now be considered for the internship as well.

Interns are exposed to vast areas of innovation and gain hands-on experience in evaluating technologies for patentability, marketability and commercialization readiness. They are expected to manage the analysis of multiple technologies that fall in and outside of their wheelhouse and to communicate their findings with INVO staff and faculty inventors. Applications will close on Friday, September 1, 2023.
