Upcoming Service

Plastic on the Furniture

Rev. Kimberley Debus

10:45 AM, Sunday, April 30, 2023

How do we preserve the past and still lean into the future? What do we do with our traditions and histories as we turn toward what lies ahead?

Rev. Kimberley Debus is a community minister based in Takoma Park, Maryland, inspiring an artful and art-filled faith. She consults with congregations and religious professionals throughout the denomination. She is joyfully affiliated with the Unitarian Church of Lincoln, Nebraska, and has previously served at the Church of the Larger Fellowship as well as congregations on Long Island and Key West.

This Sunday Events Following Service

Coffee Hour

Fellowship Hall

Contributions are Welcome at Coffee Hour

The Hospitality Committee invites everyone to join us after Sunday services for drinks and snacks during our “Coffee Hour”. We provide coffee – regular and decaf; tea – iced or hot; hot cocoa, and water.

We also offer a limited number of snacks, and we welcome any goodies that you would like to bring such as cookies, muffins, fruit, etc. During the months after we initially opened the church building post pandemic, we were required to offer only individually-wrapped snacks, but those restrictions have been lifted.

UUCH Choir News

This Sunday the choir will sing Draw the Circle Wide, an anthem of unity for all people, all cultures and all generations. Our performance will feature two soloists, Tamarra Matthews-Johnson and Glen Clark, and percussion by Benjamin Delacey.

Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour, in the sanctuary.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

Flower Communion and Child Dedication

Happy Spring, UUCH!

As the days get warmer and brighter, I am enjoying the flowers and plants growing all around us. Seeing all these blooms reminds me to look forward to our own UUCH Flower Communion. I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that in three weeks, Sunday, May 14th, we will celebrate Flower Communion. Bring a flower to share and be part of this special UU holiday celebration.

Even more exciting than the flowers themselves, that Sunday we will also be having a Child and Baby Dedication. In Unitarian Universalism, we use this ritual to welcome in our youngest children and make promises to them to love and support them throughout their lives. Several families have already signed up to participate in this dedication. If you would like your baby or young children dedicated on May 14th, please reach out to me at Minister@uuch.org.

What a special and celebratory spring we will have this year!

Love Rev. Jaimie

Children and Youth Education News

Preschool-5th Grade & 6th-12th Grade

In our last week navigating and learning about resistance, our children will ponder the many different ways they can practice resistance by refusing to give up. “One more story?”…“One more drink of water before bed?”…“Just one more piece of candy” We know our kids are well versed in persistence and this week we hope to help them hone their skills so they may continue in their spiritual growth!

Are You Ready to Become a Member?

If you’ve been attending UUCH long enough to know that this church community feels like your spiritual home, you may be ready to take the next step and become a member of this congregation.

Rev. Jaimie soon plans to welcome new members as they “sign the book” and officially join our church. If you are ready to become a member or would like to find out more about the process, please contact Pam Korb at membership@uuch.org by May 13th.

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP

Because we are a democratic community, members are collectively vested with responsibility for the congregation. Members may vote at all congregational meetings, be elected to the governing Board, be appointed as committee chairs, and participate in all activities of the congregation.

Because we are a covenanted congregation, members have certain responsibilities to the congregation and to each other. These responsibilities are best fulfilled by:

• Regular attendance at worship

• Voting at congregational meetings

• Making financial contributions

• Contributing time and talent

• Spiritual growth and development
