Now that the seasons are changing, take a look at your vehicle emergency kit and make sure you're ready for winter weather conditions. (If you don't have an emergency kit in your vehicle, this is your sign to get one!)
Gather items that would be helpful if your vehicle breaks down or gets stuck in cold weather. For routine and long-distance travel in fall or winter weather, consider packing:
- Warm clothing (hats, mittens, jackets, etc.)
- Warm, waterproof boots with good treads.
- Sand or kitty litter for traction.
- Flashlights and extra batteries. Check regularly to make sure batteries are charged.
- First aid kit. Check at least twice a year to make sure contents are not expired.
- Blankets/sleeping bag.
- Non-perishable food (granola bars, nuts, dried fruit, etc.).
- Bottled water. Check regularly to make sure it is not expired.
- Booster cables.
- Flares, triangles or other reflective objects.
