Transition Team Update
In April 2022, the Lakewood Transition Team was formed to prepare Lakewood corporately and financially to transition to the Global Methodist Church (GMC). A formal request to explore this transition was sent to the United Methodist Church (UMC) on May 2, 2022. There are many unknowns in this process, and the Transition Team is committed to keeping the congregation informed as we proceed. Rest assured, a final decision will be made by a vote of the professing members of our congregation to be held when all details are known.

Why has Lakewood joined 107 Florida churches seeking to transition to the Global Methodist Church?

Lakewood’s Mission statement provides the simple answer. Lakewood connects people to God, grows followers of Jesus, and impacts the world for God with love. Pursuing the transition to the Global Methodist Church (GMC) will provide our congregation a positive route to affirm our belief in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and will promote our church mission. Lakewood will accomplish this through our commitment to Orthodox Theology, honoring our 2000-year Judeo-Christian heritage. Our loving and caring Lakewood church will be free to focus on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, rather than engaging in external and internal political turmoil. We seek to retain our identity as followers of Jesus by continuing to adhere to Biblical teachings.

Your prayers are needed as the Good Shepherd guides us through this process.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Sincerely,
Ken Perry, Chairman Transition Team
