"Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels."
(Hebrews 13:2)

The last three weeks, since my arrival at St. Timothy’s, have been incredible; sometimes overwhelming. So many of you have welcomed me and I feel very welcomed. I am grateful for the love, the kindness and the hospitality you have all shown me.

At each of the Masses last week, I couldn’t help but notice our hospitality ministers. Their smiles and their greetings were evident as they welcomed parishioners and guests alike who entered our church. All of our ministries are important, but it is vital for a church to have a good hospitality team to welcome, not only our parishioners but also our guests. Often times, these hospitality ministers are the only contact a person will have with our church community. I am so grateful Saint Timothy has a great hospitality team. Thank you to all of you who serve in this ministry.

However, hospitality isn’t just meant for our hospitality ministers. It is meant for all of us and there are so many different ways to show hospitality:

  • If you see someone new to the parish, introduce yourself and say hello
  • Be on the lookout for someone who may look lost and rather than pointing them in the direction they need, walk with them to their destination.
  • Offer a stranger a seat in the pew next to you.
  • Invite someone you do not know to sit with you in the hall while enjoying coffee and donuts.

These are just a few ways we can each show hospitality and without a doubt there are many more. St. Timothy does hospitality very well and so let’s keep encouraging each other in this area. Who knows, we might unknowingly be entertaining angels.

Have a blessed week.

With my love and prayers,

Fr. Patrick
