Rabbi Neil Blumofe Comes to RRCC This Sunday

Rabbi Neil Blumofe is Senior Rabbi at Agudas Achim Congregation in Austin. With gratitude we welcome him to speak to our congregation this Sunday!

Join us in the sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. for a special talk and extended Q and A session by Rabbi Blumhofe on modern Judaism, Jewish-Christian relations, and the troubling issue of antisemitism in today's world. It will be live at the church as well as available on zoom (see the Friday "Reminders" email for the zoom link).

Rabbi Blumhofe is a husband and father of three. He graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Academy for Jewish Religion – California (Rabbinical School). He is involved in the Clergy Leadership Incubator (Mentor); the Shalom Hartman Institute – Jerusalem (Senior Fellow); Rabbis Without Borders (Fellow); and the Institute for Jewish Spirituality (Hevraya). He is on the Executive Board for Leadership Austin and the Board of Directors of Texas Impact and Texas Freedom Network. He regularly convenes conversations and evenings of jazz — exploring identity, heritage, and meaning — connecting Judaism, spirituality, and African-American traditions all within the storied history of the United States.

Many thanks to Julian Grant, our Commissioned Minister for Interfaith Studies, for arranging for Rabbi Blumofe's visit. You will not want to miss this excellent interfaith learning opportunity. If you can't come in person and would like to participate through zoom, here is the link:

Scripture Reading

John 5:1-9 (New Revised Standard Version)

After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. 3 In these lay many ill, blind, lame, and paralyzed people. 5 One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

7 The ill man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am making my way someone else steps down ahead of me.”

8 Jesus said to him, “Stand up, take your mat and walk.” 9 At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk.

Now that day was a Sabbath.
