New Study Sheds Light on How Autonomous Shuttles Impact People of All Abilities

Dr. Sherrilene Classen, chair and professor in the UF Department of Occupational Therapy, and her colleagues at the University of Florida studied how the lived experiences of people with and without disabilities impact their feelings about using autonomous shuttles (AS) after riding in such a vehicle. The information gained from this study has the potential to provide information that will shape industry guidelines and impact public policy. [Read more]

Uncovering Bias in Human Mobility Analysis through Mobile Device Location Data

Doctoral student Xiaojian Zhang is working to reduce social inequalities by analyzing biases in mobile device location data gathered and tracked from technologies such as mobile phones or other GPS-enabled devices. The information gleaned from this study can help transportation engineers and planners create policies that are not biased toward advantaged communities, thus creating a more equitable approach that addresses the needs of all populations. UF Alumnus Joins UFTI's External Advisory Board

Dr. Clark Letter serves as the Director of Planning and Analytics at the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), where he oversees the development of the Long-Range Transportation Plan, Unified Planning Work Program, and region-wide priority projects. Dr. Letter has more than 12 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning, including connected and autonomous vehicle deployment, traffic operations, and emerging technologies. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida. Dr. Letter holds a master’s and doctoral degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida. Before working at the North Florida TPO, he worked in the consulting industry and focused on traffic engineering, planning, data analysis, and technology related deployments. 

HNTB Senior Vice President Joins UFTI's External Advisory Board

Len Becker is the Senior Vice President of HNTB’s West Florida offices. He has been in the engineering consulting industry since 2000, joining HNTB in 2011. In his role, Mr. Becker is responsible for the West Florida practice and delivery of HNTB’s client services. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Michigan State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Michigan.
