VIRGINIA BEACH - Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation's Laskin Road Bridge Replacement and Widening Project will be performing utility work at the intersection of First Colonial and Republic roads, requiring some temporary lane closures and turn restrictions under flagger control, beginning as early as Sunday, April 24, at 6 a.m. through Monday, April 25, at 6 a.m.
While the water line tie-in work is underway:
- Through- and left-turn movements from westbound Laurel Lane will be restricted, with motorists directed to turn right to go north on First Colonial and either u-turn at the first un-signalized crossover past Chantilly Court or at the signalized Wolfsnare Road intersection;
- Through movements from eastbound Republic Road to Laurel Lane will be restricted, with motorists directed to turn right to go south on First Colonial and either u-turn at the first un-signalized crossover into The Shops at Hilltop or at the signalized Laskin Road intersection; and
- Left turns from northbound First Colonial Road to Republic Road will be restricted, with motorists directed to turn left at Laskin Road, then turn right onto Republic or make a u-turn at the first un-signalized crossover past Chantilly Court or at the signalized Wolfsnare Road intersection.
Multiple uniformed flaggers will be in place within the intersections of First Colonial Road, Republic Road and Laurel Lane to assist in managing traffic and facilitating access to nearby properties. Access to properties throughout this corridor will be maintained at all times while the lane closures and turn restrictions are in place.
Motorists traveling through the work zone while the work is underway should abide by the directions of uniformed flaggers and law enforcement at all times.
The above work is weather-dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.
