The Estrella Warbirds Museum has always been known for its constant change and quality of the displays.  If you have not been to the museum in a while, there is no better time then this summer to catch up on the latest aircraft, military vehicle or automotive display that has become part of the museum since the last time you visited.

If you have a little bit of extra time on your hands and are looking for a new hobby or willing to share your knowledge or even learn something new, we are always looking for gift shop workers,  docents or volunteers in the restoration or maintenance areas.  We are all family and would like you to join us!  It's fun! There are plenty of new friends to meet and enjoyable times to be had. Contact us today!  We'd love to hear from you.

Bring your Valentine!

Lynne Ludwick Higgins wrote the book,  The Box, and will be talking about how and why she was compelled to write this memoir. Forty years after her uncle was killed in Vietnam, she received a gift from a Viet Cong veteran who was in the battle that killed her uncle. She will explain how this came to be, and will talk a little of her childhood growing up in San Luis with her uncle, who was only 3 years her senior. To Lynne, her uncle represents all young draftees of the time, and she feels that the gift she received was meant for all who lost something in that war.

Lynne was born and raised in San Luis Obispo; on her mom's side her ancestors have been in the county over a hundred years, and almost a hundred on her dad's side. She graduated from SLO High in 1967 then went to Cal Poly and received a B.S. in Child Development, an elementary teaching credential and then an additional year to receive her Special Education credential. She also earned a Resource Specialist Certificate from the county. She was employed as a Resource Teacher for the Atascadero School District, working with students with minimal disabilities such as dyslexia. She retired two years ago and then had time to complete this book, which she self-published on January 9th of 2016.

Lynne raised her three grown children in Atascadero; all three are married now, two living in SLO County and one in Truckee. One daughter is a Professor at Cal Poly. One daughter is an interior designer with a degree in Architecture. Her son graduated from Cal Poly then started work in construction with his dad who is a contractor (in his retired life). Each of her children had a baby in 2015, so she has three grandbabies, all a year old.
