A recent NUCATS article highlights Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities (ARCC) community partner and seed grantee Mary Roberson and her nonprofit, the Northern Illinois Recovery Community Organization (NIRCO).

In 2021, ARCC facilitated a partnership between Maryann Mason, PhD, associate professor of Emergency Medicine, and Roberson: Engaging recovery communities of color: a partnership promoting health equity through addressing co-morbidity. The community collaboration seed grant project sought to address and dismantle health-related barriers for persons of color in recovery from substance misuse.

Ariel Thomas Sansing, Community Engagement Liaison for the Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities (ARCC) has been accepted into the inaugural ProInspire Leadership Institute Fellowship Program for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Emerging Leaders! She looks forward to leaning into the learning process over the next three days in order to emerge a more grounded, informed, and effective advocate on issues central to historically marginalized communities.

The ProInspire Leadership Institute: Managing People and Power (or PLI) is a three-day immersive, virtual workshop designed to engage people and project managers in ProInpsire’s leading self and people practices for Race Equity Impact. Over the course of three days, participants will build connections and relationships with other social impact leaders while engaging in targeted learning, sharing, and skills building. the Center for Health Equity Transformation, in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, is hosting a virtual Juneteenth celebration, where we will discuss Black History in Chicago, the importance of culture and place, and what it means to the people who live there.
