Make 2024 a year for creativity!
Classes & workgroups are a fun way to play with a new medium, deepen your skills, and connect with your community! In addition to the classes (found here), OffCenter hosts free weekly workgroups and open drop in art nights! No need to register for these, you are welcome to just come join us. Open for all-ages and abilities.

So what exactly is a workgroup anyway? Led by an experienced and welcoming facilitator, each group focuses on a different type of creative project in a flexible and open environment. Some groups are more collaborative (Puppet Theater group participants work together to write, rehearse, and perform a puppet play!) and others are centered on independent work. (At Fiber Art group, people can bring their own project or find inspiration in OC studio supplies, and there are knitters, weavers, and more working independently on projects.) Workgroups are always free, you're welcome to bring your own project and materials, or just show up and find inspiration and supplies in the studio!
TONIGHT:
Third Thursdays, 6-8 p.m.
Next meeting: Thursday, January 18
Join us for some super creative hands-on making in our new monthly journal making group at OffCenter with artist and teacher, Michelle Holdt! Build or "Hack" your own creative book! We begin by collecting fun paper and punching holes in it and tying it with a ribbon or “hack” an existing blank journal by collaging, stamping, and painting into it. Then learn a few simple sketching and poetry exercises to start to put “yourself into your book!”
Fourth Thursdays, 6-8 p.m. for January & February. Next meeting: Thursday, January 25

Join Pamela Heater and other painters for studio time to work on your painting projects. Bring work to complete or start something new. Pamela will be there to join you in painting and provide guidance and advice as requested. In addition, there will be a painting prompt and/or activity to stir your creative juices.

This drop in monthly workgroup focuses on strengthening the creative muscle. Perfect for those who feel like they have lost their creativity or just want to find new ways to expand their creative expression. We will explore integrating creative practices in everyday life.

Join sewist Alden Sobol as they guide you through the process of making your very own reversible tote bag! This queer-led class is perfect if you have some experience using a sewing and are looking to improve your skill or confidence level. Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours as you expand your sewing skills with this intro level class.

In this beginning knitting class you will learn the basics of how to knit and purl. You’ll get started on a knitted dishcloth and will leave with the pattern and instructions for how to finish it. This queer-led class is perfect for the absolute beginning knitter, and for folks who have previously learned how to knit, but have forgotten.
In this generative writing workshop we'll look at (and create!) very short poems and then use editing prompts to practice playful revision. Writing short (and editing fast) can be a great way to jumpstart your writing practice. Come write with OC executive director Mika Maloney. Whether you consider yourself a poet or not, this writing workshop is a chance to dive into some poetry!
