During Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Month we honor and celebrate the culture, traditional practices, and customs of Indigenous Peoples. With more than 370 million Indigenous People spread over 70 countries worldwide, we take this month to recognize the stories of Indigenous Peoples.


Join the Native Student Union (NSU), Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Month Planning Committee, & the Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement (IME) office in celebrating and learning more about our Indigenous community.

Queer Electronica


The Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement office (IME) and the Music Department are putting together a celebration of Queer Electronic Music. This event will be a concert of Queer and LGBTQIA* student submitted pieces, preferably with a live performance attached to it. We hope that this event will be a space to celebrate and allow students to experiment with gender through the art of Electronic Music.

Study on Multiracial Identity/Heritage and Mental Health & Wellness


If you identify either as multiracial or as having heritage/ancestry from multiple (two or more) racial groups, please consider participating in this psychology capstone study on multiracial identity/heritage and mental health & wellness. The study involves filling out an anonymous google forms survey which will take 10-15 minutes.

Event on Afromexican Identities & Histories at LC


Friday, November 18th

Join us on November 18 at 12:40 in Smith Hall for a talk by Álvaro Alcántara:

“Complejizar la noción de ‘lo mexicano’ desde las experiencias de las afrodescendencias.”


Dr. Alcántara is a scholar of Afromexican history at the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia-Veracruz and a Son Jarocho musician, who bridges his work as a cultural practitioner and a researcher to explore questions of identity formation and resistance in Mexico since the colonial period.


This event will be held in Spanish, with a bilingual Q&A session.


All are welcome! Free & open to the public.

BIPOC Climb Night at PSU


Wednesday, Nov. 30th

Location: Meet at the Sequoia Warehouse Building, on the Graduate Campus


Join L&C students, PSU students, and other people of color as we build community at the Portland State University Climbing Center! It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to climbing or climb every day, this space is for you to make new friends, find a climbing partner, or just try something new. No previous experience necessary; instruction, gear, and transportation will be provided.

UPREP is a collaborative project between the Office of Healthcare Equity student affinity groups. UPREP offers monthly workshops to underrepresented minority students and other aspiring future applicants who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. We offer workshops focusing on topics ranging from AMCAS application, financial aid, writing a personal statement, MCAT prep, interviews, and others.


Our first session of the year is scheduled on,

-Monday, November 28th, 2022 6:30-8:00pm PACIFIC STANDARD TIME

-Location: Zoom


This session’s topic will be: Overview of the Medical School Application


The event itself will consist of a presentation, panelist Q&A, and breakout rooms with a current medical student. You will have an opportunity to meet and interact with current medical students who, like you, have applied to medical schools in the past and want to help you be a successful applicant! Our student volunteers are very diverse and come from all walks of life who each have their own unique insights and stories they would love to share with you!

If you would like to submit something to be added to the IME newsletter, please fill out the form below. The IME newsletter goes out every Monday afternoon (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday). All submissions to make it into the weekly newsletter must be done by Monday morning at 8 am or they will be added to the following week's newsletter.
