Nighttime Interstate 89 Closures at Exit 17 in Colchester:

Starting TONIGHT, November 17, at 8 p.m. through

November 22, at 6 a.m.

COLCHESTER, VT: Starting TONIGHT, Sunday, November 17 at 8 p.m. through Friday, November 22, at 6 a.m., the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 89 (I-89) at the Exit 17 interchange will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night to facilitate the installation of structural steel girders for the new U.S. Route 2 (U.S. 2) bridge over I-89.

During the nighttime closures, traffic will be maintained via detour routes. The existing U.S. Route 2 (U.S. 2) bridge over I-89 will have a single-lane reduction, with two lanes of traffic maintained.

Temporary traffic control signage and portable changeable message boards are installed along the detour routes to guide travelers. Southbound traffic on I-89 will be directed to exit the interstate at Exit 17, turn left onto U.S. 2., and immediately re-enter I-89 using the southbound on-ramp at the Exit 17 interchange, as illustrated in the graphic below.

Northbound traffic on I-89 will be detoured to exit the interstate at Exit 16 in Colchester, travel approximately 6.3 miles on U.S. 2/U.S. 7 to the Exit 17 interchange, and re-enter I-89 using the northbound on-ramp at the Exit 17 interchange, as shown in the graphic below.

Motorists should slow down, use caution, and pay attention to flaggers and road signage while traveling through the work zone. The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather and other field variables. PROJECT LOCATION: The segment of U.S. 2, starting just east of Jasper Mine Road and extending just under a half mile east to its intersection with U.S. 7 at Chimney Corner. The segment of U.S. 7, starting just south of the Shell Gas Station/Simon’s Chimney Corner Store and extending just over a half mile north to its intersection with Wiley Road. The Exit 17 interstate ramps and the portion of I-89 bounded by them.
