She has been a distinguished leader in advancing the mission of caring for our community at large. Welcome, Kim!

Please join us in welcoming Shelby Badger as our new RTMC Development & Communications Coordinator! Shelby recently completed her AmeriCorps term as our Client Outreach Coordinator. She did such an outstanding job that we asked her to join our staff team. We are thrilled she said YES! Please join us in welcoming Yelena Espinoza as our new RTMC Project Coordinator! Yelena has a track record of managing multiple projects through the personal training business she founded and ran. A Life-Changing In-Kind Donation!

Special thanks to the amazing team at American Custom Contractors for facilitating a life-changing in-kind roof donation for RTMC homeowner client, Mr. W. We greatly appreciate American Custom Contractors’ William Giakoumatos, President, Demetri Giakoumatos, CEO, and Wynter Padier, Office Manager, for this donation and for helping to facilitate the in-kind donation of roof shingles from GAF and support from Superior Distribution Roofing & Building Materials to complete the work.

Mr. W. lives alone in his Gaithersburg home with no family nearby that he can look to for assistance. Because of his disabilities, Mr. W. has limited income and is unable to work. Before applying to RTMC, Mr. W. had been living without a functioning kitchen for nine years – no running water or appliance and nothing but a microwave and a mini-fridge. This was due to extensive water damage throughout the first floor of his home caused by a leaking roof. Mr. W. was living in a house stripped down to the studs after having disposed of his broken appliances and removal of the damaged drywall.

During National Rebuilding Day in April, our amazing volunteer friends from Neelsville Presbyterian Church, Davis Construction and Rock Spring Contracting came to the rescue and completely transformed the interior of the home by installing new drywall, flooring, cabinets, plus so much more. With the help of RTMC Board Member Ed Mullaney, Mr. W. also received all new appliances.

The last piece to finish was a new roof but RTMC lacked the funds due to the large volume of homeowners needing help. With the incredible generosity of American Custom Contractors, GAF and Superior Distribution Roofing & Building Materials, Mr. W. now has a new roof to protect all the interior repairs and help ensure he can live safely and comfortably in his home for many years to come.

What a fabulous team effort in support of a neighbor in need!

Help for a Germantown Grandmother

RTMC homeowner client Mrs. C. is a grandmother living in Germantown. She is working to secure custody of her three grandchildren who are autistic and nonverbal. As a part of this process, there was an inspection of her home, but unfortunately there was a violation found with her deck. Thankfully, she was pointed towards RTMC and with the help of our contractor partner Mario Granados with Transformation Contractor, LLC the deck was repaired and brought up to code. Now Mrs. C. can finalize the custody process and give her grandchildren a safe space to live, play and thrive.

RTMC Designated a Critical Nonprofit in the DMV

RTMC is honored to be designated by Spur Local as a Critical Nonprofit in the DMV. Formerly known as the Catalogue for Philanthropy, Spur Local is the region’s only locally focused guide to civic engagement, focusing on the power of small nonprofits to spark big change together.

Each year, Spur Local staff assess hundreds of nonprofits and create a final, balanced list of great nonprofits in the region. This year’s list of 134 small nonprofits includes RTMC. As part of our four-year partnership with Spur Local, RTMC receives access to capacity building resources, a feature in The Catalog—a Spur Local publication—and more. We are grateful for all their support and partnership.

Our AmeriCorps Members are The Best!

Immense gratitude to Shelby Badger who completed her AmeriCorps term with RTMC in August. Ever since Shelby joined us as our AmeriCorps Client Outreach Coordinator, she has made a huge impact on RTMC and the homeowners we serve. She has been the first point of contact for our homeowners and is always there to actively listen to homeowner concerns, patiently walk them through the application process, and keep them updated throughout the repair process. Shelby always ensures our homeowners receive the highest quality services. Shelby played an instrumental role in the team’s recent success to serve a record-breaking number of homeowners over the past fiscal year. She literally fielded hundreds and hundreds of calls and emails and consistently provided outstanding customer service. Shelby was also actively involved in our efforts to reach more homeowners through community presentations, tabling events and design of outreach materials. We are excited to have Shelby join our staff team where she will take over our social media and newsletter, as well as help RTMC raise additional funds so we can serve even more neighbors in need.
