Student Ambassador Spotlight
Have you ever wondered what to do with shoes that are still in good condition but no longer fit or suit your style? Well, one student saw a need and found a brilliant solution: donate them to Clothes To Kids of Denver!
Meet Kareena Sundaram, a student at Cherry Creek High School who has collected hundreds of pairs of shoes for Clothes To Kids. When Kareena and classmate Paisley Piepgras joined the high school cross country team in their freshman year, they noticed the huge number of shoes the team retired throughout the season, many still with life left in them. Wishing to do something impactful for the community and realizing that shoes are an essential item that many people lack or struggle to afford, they started a nonprofit called Sneakers from Creekers.

Kareena began by asking her teammates, friends, and family to donate their gently used shoes that they no longer wore. She also reached out to neighbors, her parent's co-workers, local businesses and other schools to organize collections. Kareena then sorted the shoes and delivered them to Clothes To Kids. Kareena's project has been a huge success, attracting 467 pairs of shoes and 80 pairs of new socks from around her community. She has received shoes of all kinds but focuses on sneakers, which are most versatile for students.

Kareena is always finding new ways to spread the word about her shoe drives and hopes to inspire others to join her in her mission of inspiring joy and hope through footwear. One of Clothes To Kids' Student Ambassadors, she has been an enthusiastic advocate for us in the community for more than two years, making connections with people from all walks of life. "I do this because I love helping other students," Kareena shares.

Kareena also shares her love of helping students in other ways. As a member of National Charity League, Kareena supports Clothes To Kids by volunteering in the store and collecting other much-needed items. This year her NCL class filled 30 new backpacks with school supplies for the students we serve. In a prior year, Kareena led her NCL class in holding a winter coat drive that brought in more than 500 coats! She is a great role model for other teens who want to make a difference in their community.

Thank you, Kareena for your amazing work and your generous spirit! You are truly a shoe-tastic role model for us all!

Sharing the Love

Meet Noelle! This fabulous youth volunteer is relentless when it comes to doing laundry for Clothes To Kids. Each load that she takes home comes back washed, neatly folded and ready to go out in the store. We are grateful for her hard work!

We have really enjoyed hosting volunteers from the Elevation Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. on Wednesdays this summer. They always go above and beyond and are so helpful. Thank you!

The Junior Class of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. filled 50 backpacks with school supplies and supportive back-to-school notes. Our shoppers were so happy for the opportunity to choose from these backpacks. What a special gift!

While they aren't part of our regular wardrobe, school supplies are a particularly helpful "extra" this time of year. Our wonderful volunteer Kim Flickinger put together some bundles of new items and brought them in to give our shoppers. They were very much appreciated!

A HUGE thank you to our friends at fellow nonprofit Undies for Everyone for this incredible donation of more than 15,000 pairs of new underwear. That's enough for 3,000+ wardrobes! We are able to serve a record number of shoppers each day thanks to partnerships with other nonprofits like this one.

Molly and Sean Hollis, along with their daughters Katy and Leila, hosted a wonderful party at Pirate's Cove. For 12 years the Hollis family has selected a nonprofit beneficiary for their event, and this year they chose us. The gathering raised more than $4,000 and introduced us to a terrific new audience. Many thanks to this generous family!

A big thank you to our friend Tyg Taylor from fellow nonprofit Wholly Kicks for bringing a big load of brand new shoes for our shoppers to choose from. Everyone was excited by the amazing selection!

We received a lovely donation last weekend of more than 100 pairs of new shoes from WMG Holdings LLC. The shoes have flown out the door and have made so many of our shoppers happy! Kudos also to our hard-working teen volunteers for helping us sort and display them so quickly.

Our sweet friend Peggy Kastning from The Urban Angels came by to bring more donations. She brought in 675 pairs of new underwear (a great start to their Undie 500), 35 pairs of jeans, 28 pairs of shoes and some school supplies. Perfect timing for back to school!
