May in Review

During the month of May, River City Domestic Violence Center worked hard assisting survivors in securing permanent housing, obtaining protection orders, safety planning, finding employment, and developing safe, secure independence. We also worked to reach out to neighboring communities to offer support and began planning our fundraising and awareness event, Walk A Mile in Their Shoes!

Advocate Advantage: Mental Health Awareness

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. RCDVC joined the national movement to raise awareness. Through our social media campaign we shared several tips for employers, co-workers and friends. Together, we can raise awareness and learn positive coping skills for this invisible wound.

United Way Day of Caring 2023

River City Domestic Violence Center and River City Family Connections was chosen as a project site for United Way's Day of Caring! Ten willing volunteers (along with many behind the scenes workers) made a MAJOR difference in the landscaping of our shelter! Thank you to everyone at the United Way & Volunteer Services of Greater Yankton for hosting this wonderful event! We appreciate ALL of YOU for making a difference today! "Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart!" -Elizabeth Andrews

Engagement With Law Enforcement

Lunch With Law Enforcement

Local law enforcement joined us for lunch in recognition of Law Enforcement Recognition Week! RCDVC and RCFC treated them to pizza and homemade desserts. While visiting our shelter, they took a moment to pose for a photo in honor of Supervised Visitation Month, with is also in May. We appreciate their help in protecting all of our little "cuties"!

De-Escalation Training

Officer Brandon Frey of Yankton Police Department presented a training on de-escalation and mitigation of crisis situations and responding to difficult behavior in the safest, most effective way possible. In attendance were tenants from the United Way building. RCDVC serves clients at our second office within the United Way building.

Quilted Door Hangers

The shelter received a special delivery from quilter Joyce Brunken. She dropped off the June and July quilted door hangers stitched by eight different guild members! The quilt blocks are beautiful and add so much character to our shelter! We appreciate Dakota Prairie Quilt Guild so much!

River City Domestic Violence Center and River City Family Connections have received a generous grant to purchase OT supplies. Charities Aid Foundation of America as recommended by Parker Hannifin has donated $2000! We appreciate this generous donation so much!
