Two New Grant Opportunities

Applications are now being accepted for the new Nonprofit Performing Arts (NPPA) program. To be eligible you must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with no more than $2 million in annual gross revenue, and with activities dating back before June 1, 2019. Fiscally sponsored organizations are also eligible.

Local Arts News

The Orange County Women’s Chorus recently traveled to New York where they made their debut at the famed Carnegie Hall on June 27. Their Spotlight Performance was followed by a massed choir performance of Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass” under the baton of Artistic Director Eliza Rubenstein. 


Since 2000, the Orange County Women’s Chorus has been under Rubenstein’s leadership. The group has grown from a small group of women who brainstormed ways for them to find opportunities to sing together into one of the region’s top choruses. The many venues in which they have performed include the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Irvine Barclay Theatre and Walt Disney Concert Hall’s REDCAT Theater.

On June 26, Newport Theatre Arts Center renamed its stage the Rae A. Cohen Theater in honor of Cohen’s longtime leadership. She was the organization’s first board president in 1979 and continued to serve in that role until retiring nearly four decades later. The announcement came as a surprise to Cohen, as it took place at the company’s annual Patron Appreciation Night. 


The evening is normally designed to thank audience members and to announce the upcoming season’s shows. Members of Cohen’s family were in attendance, having kept the special occasion a secret.

The Orange County Museum of Art has just announced the commission of a monumental sculpture by artist Sanford Biggers that is planned to be installed by the museum’s October opening. 


Bigger’s 24 foot-wide, 16 foot-tall multi-media sculpture “Of many waters…” will be part of OCMA’s Sculpture Terrace and will remain on view through February 5, 2023. Biggers will be honored this Fall at the museum's gala on October 1.


The new OCMA building is designed by global architecture firm Morphosis.
