CCUW Women United: August 2023 Newsletter

Summer's Farewell!

Can you believe summer is winding down already?! The end of summer can only mean one thing, the start of another United Way annual campaign! And as alluded to in our July 2023 newsletter, we have some exciting updates and upcoming opportunities to share. Starting with the changes you may have noticed to our name and logo. Learn more about our brand refresh and fall luncheon below!

Women's Leadership Group Women United

Women United harnesses the power and dedication of

women leaders to transform local communities – across America and around the world.

You may have noticed changes to our name and logo. We continue with the commitment we have demonstrated as Women’s Leadership Group to focus on issues, projects, and programs related to the wellbeing of women and children. Funds designated for or raised by the Women’s Leadership Group have been granted for new or expanding projects, programs, or services that support women and children in Centre County.

Over the past decade, across the United Way organization, under the Women United brand, the number of women supporting their communities has experienced explosive growth. As we transition from Women’s Leadership Group to Women United, we will be able to use this national structure to increase our ability to support our community. Women United intends to transform tremendous local, organic growth into exponential, enterprise-level growth, by rallying our strong and passionate women leaders around an enthusiastically positive vision for the future.

What is Women United?

  • A new, unifying brand identity – Women United – that resonates with current and prospective donors and the general public, alike. Adopted by United Way World Wide in 2017.
  • Women United is a global force of over 70,000 women and growing; dedicated to creating a world full of opportunity —for everyone. Women United® fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person, in every community.

Women United will amplify…

  • One Network. One Brand. One Voice.
  • With one brand and one voice, we can engage more women leaders together.
  • Our emotional resonance within this critical growth segment.
  • A more relatable identity that resonates more deeply with women and help us propel engagement — from both a fundraising and community impact perspective.
  • Our GLOBAL leadership position in the women’s philanthropy movement.
  • Women leaders aspire to be part of something bigger than themselves — to have a shared platform and cause to serve their local communities, and by doing so, play a role in a transcendent, global movement.

Impact of United Way’s women leaders.

  • United Way’s women’s affinity groups were founded in 2002
  • Ambitious grassroots model grounded in the idea that addressing the most critical local needs lifts the community as a whole
  • Women United leaders speak up, unite and take action on issues that hit closest to home through giving, volunteering and advocating
  • Over 70,000 members strong and growing
  • Presence in over 165 local United Ways

Why women?

Women are where the power is — at work, at home, and in charitable giving

  • Women want to do more than give — they want to be connected and they want to be advocates
  • Women trust and favor United Way more than men (Trust numbers are key indicators for greater engagement and giving)
  • Women tend to be greater champions for their charitable causes than men, and to recommend organizations in which they’re involved
  • Women and girls re-invest an average of 90 percent of their income in their families, compared to a 30 to 40 percent reinvestment rate for men
  • Globally by 2026, women’s charitable giving would reach $1 trillion per year if women gave at 1.7%
  • Women are more likely than men to give to charity. Women are more likely to give and give more to every charitable subsector with a few exceptions.
  • Women spend more time than men on researching organizations before making charitable giving decisions and place greater importance onhearing the impact of their gift.
  • Women are more likely to volunteer and volunteer more hours than men
