Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,

We are here to deliver good news: The sky is not falling!

We are a nation and a world facing challenges, some seemingly insurmountable. But, when has that not been the case? And, when have we not, collectively, managed to overcome? That is the important thing about community: it matters most when it’s needed most.

We love our craft and we know you, do too. We have a passion for knitting, crocheting, not to mention the color and feel of a great yarn:) These are the things that bring us together. But what holds us together? What makes us a community?

Simple: It's a shared purpose. It’s mutual support. It’s a sense that we can accomplish any sweater, cowl, sock, blanket, hat, glove - ANYTHING – if we just come together. Sometimes, it just means sharing triumphs and, yes, sometimes, defeats.

At the heart of our little world at TBP is all of you, our community’s thinkers, adventurers and most of all - makers. You are the ones doing it, day in and day out, taking on projects not because you have to, but because you want to, which makes our work a labor of love. And we can see it, in all that you share with us. Take a look below at the community section this week and you will see what we mean. We are blown away by it.

Each of your projects is a celebration of challenge and an act of individual optimism. But, if it were only a solitary endeavor, would the journey and reward be quite as fulfilling? We think not. We think our work is also about leaning on and learning from each other to select the pattern, select the fiber and the color, learn a new technique and finally share and celebrate the beautiful object you have produced. Sharing can mean giving or showing, both with pride.

We hope that we can be part of that journey for you. You are for us. Please stop by, let us lend a hand and an ear. We truly love hearing about your projects and learning about what inspires and motivates you. We come into the shop each day charged up because we cherish the chance to help, to listen, to lift, and most of all, to learn.

Community matters. You matter. We can take on any project – and challenge – together.

Our Wonderful Community
Skylar's summer top is off the hook!
Recent high school grad, Skylar designed and crocheted this fab vest using Cascade's Ultra Pima. WE WERE HYPNOTIZED!!! So many graduates in our lives these past few weeks. It’s been fun celebrating. Awesome work, Skylar!
A riding we will go...
Pam modified The Horse Sweater from pullover into a cardigan and used Berroco Vintage. She gifted this pretty creation to her equestrian sister-in-law, Susan. How lucky for Susan to have such a talented knitter in the family... bonus, she's picture perfect to (riding) boot!
Alyssa in Mod Mode
WOW! Alyssa used Sandnes Garn Line for her modified dress version of Sommerknus by Elesbeth Judith. The pattern is written for a top but she used her extra skeins to make this way cool (literal and figurative) dress. ❤️ the fab off-pattern result! Word is she may actually follow the pattern and make the top because she enjoys the drape and feel of the fabric so much. Stay tuned!
Monica's flair for FUN
Check out Monica's excellent use of Rowan Felted Tweed's many colorways for this happy crocheted Diversion Scarf by Dedri Uys. Honestly, it's so fun we couldn't stop smiling during the photo shoot. We especially ❤️ that pompom fringe which was a whimsey she added on her own! Super bien hecho, as always, Monica!
When your kids ❤️ what you make them!
Part III
Colleen made Stockholm Slipover Mini by Petiteknit in Cascade 220 for Aidan who, along with sister, Molly were recently featured here sporting amazing sweaters knit by Mom. Excellent work continues to fly off Colleen's needles. You GO, Mom!
A Daughter's Love
Parva was in Keri's Building in Color class and has graduated. She used Berroco Vintage for this masterpiece which will be gifted to her mother. Excellent work, Parva!

So, you want to jump into the deep end of the pool to make this number on your own? Well, we have Michelle Hunter's book to guide you to that end and the yarn, of course.
Judy's creating and creating again...
Our resident free-form crochet artist, Judy is back at it, after a brief hiatus, with this wonderful raffia creation in Yashi & Yashi Iro. Big ❤️!
Cheryl's adorable Unicorn
Cheryl is another one of our crochet masters! Here, she hooked up a pillow, pattern on Etsy for her "unicorn obsessed "granddaughter in Berroco Vintage. ❤️ those long, lovely eyelashes on this sleeping beauty -- very en vogue and so super cute!
Meg Aced the Lace
"I guess I can do lace!" said Meg who used Dan Doh Silk + for her Woven Shadows, pattern designed by Yumiko Alexander. Well, we wholeheartedly agree and ❤️ the fine result, Meg!
Mary's Doctorate of Wraps
Mary has, indeed, graduated crochet class with this beauty of a wrap! Here, she holds her version of Florescence by designer and teacher, Carolyn Hanson. Mary used Koigu in black & white from the shop with stash yarn, along with yarn we shared in class for this glorious finish. What a thesis/head-turner!

We are running this class again this fall.
A Mother's Love
Sandra knit this gorgeous Summer Flies Again shawl, pattern by Donna Griffin, for her daughter living in Spain. She used MadelineTosh Vintage which blocked out aggressively to fine effect thanks to Keri.) Olé, Señora!
A Grandmother's Labors of Love
Anne knit up this wonderful pair of Baby Surprise Jackets, pattern by Elizabeth Zimmerman in Baah LaJolla & Cascade Heritage. Here, she was picking out buttons for that final touch. So ❤️ the littles.)
The Baby Vertebrae
We love Kathie - she is an amazing knitter and she experiments :) This is NOT your traditional baby sweater! It is a frontless cardigan - why you ask? So did Kathie at first...

From the pattern... "If you have ever been mama to a bub with reflux, a spilly babe, or even a messy eating 1 year old, you will understand how frustrating it is to keep washing the dirty fronts of cardigans and sweaters...The Baby Vertebrae is also excellent for baby wearing, and getting in some skin to skin cuddles with your newborn."

We get that! - and look at the pix in the pattern super cute! What's even better is she used super soft Marianated. Way to go, Kathie!
Linda's Curio
Linda knit up Curio, pattern by Marie Wallen in Sandnes Garn Kos. She modified this sweater by making shorter sleeves and closer fit. Looks cozy, comfy and just right for these recent chilly mornings.
Not Vanilla at all!
Valerie made her first pair of Vanilla Socks in Berroco Sox. So many choices from the Crazy Sock Lady on Ravelry. Hmmm... looks to us like Valerie is into Winter Gift Stashing already! You know you want to join the fun...

Look for this sock class coming this fall.
Welcome to the Family...
Eleanor knit this Cabled Afghan 4 blanket in Berroco Vintage for her daughter-in-law-to-be as an engagement present. What a warm and generous welcome to the family indeed. Just terrific, Eleanor.
Before & After
BEFORE & AFTER… Tam busted out another gorgeous summer top! This beauty is @midori_hirose_knit's Tulip Guernsey - short sleeve version for summer - in Shibui Fern, sadly a discontinued cotton (tho, we still have a bit in the shop :) Would work great in other summer sporty-ish weight yarn. Awesome, Tam!!
Haute Couture avec Vintage Doilies
Creative Carolyn, resident crochet Queen (did you see her crocheted bees & beehive toy last issue?? Woot!), among other uber/mad crafty skills is back at it with this fiber sculpture in which she used vintage crocheted doilies (we're sure you have a few in a closet or chest somewhere,) driftwood, shells, embroidery hoops, and rope to make this inspirational piece.

The hanging has history. Some are from her grandmother, some from friends, she made a few...
Just sublime, Ms. C.)

p.s. And her tassels are perfection!
