Environment Report
LWVLake Michigan Region
If you'e looking for an engaging experience dealing with water quality, plan to join members of the LWVLMR in Grand Haven on June 23. The research vessel, D.J.Angus will sail at 9:30 a.m. with a limited number of "guests" to check water quality in Spring Lake and, if weather permits, a jaunt into Lake Michigan to check water quality near shore.
In addition, lunch will be available after the cruise at the American Legion Hall in Grand Haven with a guest speaker to further increase your knowledge of water quality issues here in SW Michigan.

Michigan Convention Report
The League of Women Voters of Michigan has a biennial convention meeting in various venues around the state. This year’s 38th convention met in East Lansing at the Kellogg Center on Michigan State’s campus, May 19-21. The main purpose of the convention is to vote on LWVMI amendments to bylaws, elect state officers, approve the state budget, and other various proposals and state programs. Each local league is allowed to send delegates. LWVBCC sent two delegates, John and me. From the U.P., to Detroit, a total of 165 delegates attended this year.
In addition to “taking care of business,” John and I heard interesting speakers, Virginia Kase Soloman (LWVUS), Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou, and Keynote Speaker Mark Brewer. Several workshops were scheduled during one of the sessions; John and I attended two educational workshops, Gun Safety and Censorship.
In between all of the scheduled activities, we had a chance to visit with members from other local
leagues to share problem-solving ideas and make new friends. The next state convention will be in 2035 and planned to be in Grand Rapids. John and I had an enjoyable and educational experience and recommend other members attend a LWVMI convention.
