We Celebrate Black History
February is Black History Month and the theme for 2022 focuses on the importance of Black Health and Wellness. This theme acknowledges the legacy of Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine, as well as a focus on emotional and mental health.

Beginning Tuesday, February 1 at Sacramento City College and across the Los Rios district, there will be a series of events planned to celebrate and share Black wellness, art, literature, music, and community.

Join us at SCC for the following Black History events:
  • Feb. 9 - Welcome Black, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Feb. 16, March 16, April 6 - Financial Literacy Series, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Feb. 17 - Black History is Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math!, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Celebrating Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 1 this year. This is a holiday observed by many Asian cultures as a way to celebrate the beginning of a new year, based on the Lunar calendar as opposed to the Gregorian calendar. Although each culture celebrates a little differently, each year is assigned to a different animal from the Chinese Zodiac - 2022 is the Year of the Tiger!

We are very excited to announce that The Sacramento Valley Consortium comprised of Sacramento City College, UC Davis, Sac State, and Woodland Community College will altogether receive up to $16.1 million over two years to recruit and train about 1,000 students and match them with internships at community organizations. Students who serve 450 hours—or 15 hours a week—over an academic year will receive a $7,000 stipend and, on completion, a $3,000 education award, academic credit, and training and professional development opportunities. Internships will be aligned with College Corps three focus areas: K-12 education, climate action, and food insecurity. The first cohort of students will be placed in internships for the 2022/2023 academic year.

Therapy Appointments Available for SCC Students
Beginning therapy can be a big step toward being the healthiest version of yourself and living the best life possible—no matter what challenges you may be facing. Though no one can tell you exactly what your therapy process will be like, in all modes of therapy you will establish goals for your therapy and determine the steps you will take to get there.

Therapists are available for SCC students now through the end of April 2022. Learn more about the available therapists and schedule an appointment.

You can expect that your therapist will be someone who supports you, listens attentively, models a healthy and positive relationship experience, gives you appropriate feedback, and follows ethical guidelines. Good therapy should be tailored to you and your experiences.

Lecture classes scheduled for in-person that do not fall into the impossible or difficult to convert category as well as most student services will remain online through the Presidents’ Day weekend with the goal to be back in-person on Tuesday, February 22.

Check for a communication from your instructor in your email or Canvas account for the status of your class and reach out to your instructor with any class-related questions.

You can find a full list of difficult to convert courses, FAQs, and more information about online and in-person instruction and services on the Reopening Webpage.
Get Boosted
We continue to strongly encourage everyone in our college communities to get their COVID-19 booster shot, which public health experts agree significantly reduces the likelihood that you will get seriously ill as a result of the Omicron variant. For more information about the efficacy of booster shots and why they are so important, visit the CDC’s website. Find a location near you to get your booster shot at myturn.ca.gov.
