— JUNE 2023 —
Beach Streets Downtown

Every few months, the city of Long Beach highlights a different neighborhood with the Beach Streets event. Specific roads are closed to cars so residents can bike, walk, roller skate, skateboard, or scooter their way around town while watching live music, shopping, eating, and more. On Saturday May 20, Beach Streets Downtown closed off portions of Pine Avenue, East Broadway, Cherry Avenue, and East 4th Street. In addition to bands and vendors, there was a Kids’ Zone with face painting and bike decorating, and an Extreme Hub where skaters performed tricks. The Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association set up a table and handed out water and snacks. Stayed tuned for news on the next Beach Streets location and date!
Give Yourself What Nature Intended

Tru Nature Juice Bar at 2225 East Broadway has been a thriving neighborhood business since June 2014. But you may not know that Tru Nature’s owner, Raj, also lives in Bluff Heights. Raj said he bought his house here in 2013, and while walking the beach every morning, he noticed and didn’t like that he couldn’t find high-quality refreshing, cold beverages in the neighborhood—only coffee.
Pride at the Library

Although the 40th annual Long Beach Pride Festival and Parade has been delayed to August 5 and 6, the Long Beach Public Library is holding several Pride-related events in June. (In addition, Long Beach hosted its first ever LB Proud! Fest from May 19 to 21, which included a collaborative event with Beach Streets and a beach party.) The events listed here are free and open to the public.
10 Fun Things to Do at The Beach
(If You Hate the Water)

We residents of Bluff Heights sometimes take for granted that we live minutes away from one of the most enviable features of our community: the beach! With its cool breezes, lower surrounding temperatures, mind-blowing sunsets, thought-provoking endlessness, and lovely sounds, this special perk that comes with living in Bluff Heights is not completely appreciated by all.
All About Juneteenth

In 2021, June 19 became the eleventh federal holiday and the first to obtain legal observance since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was designated in 1983. Activists and members of Congress had advocated for state and national observances of the day that marked the end of slavery in the United States for decades.
Each month we will publish a photograph from our neighborhood. The photos above were taken by Rick Schank, of unexpected color in nature as summer slowly arrives.
If you have photos that highlight the beauty and uniqueness of our neighborhood, please send them to info@bluffheights.org

Is it Time to Trim your Waste-Line?
It's really simple to trim your "Waste-Line!" All you need to do is collect your e-waste, hazardous waste, and/or old tire waste and bring it to one of three local collection centers under the conditions set by the City of Long Beach on this flyer.
You will feel much lighter now that you took care of those extra notches on your Waste-Line! Doesn't being a loser feel good?
