Jesus tells us how to love God: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." In other words, God wants us to love Him with our whole being and in every possible way. This is the first and greatest commandment.
St. Augustine of Hippo, a Theologian and Philosopher, 350 BC, said:
To fall in love with God is the greatest romance;
To seek Him, the greatest adventure;
and to find Him the greatest human achievement.
Often, we quote scripture, sing songs, and think about how God loves us. Do we think of this love going both ways?
James 4:8, Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you...
Song of Solomon 1:2, We will run after you, for your Love is better than wine.
Pastor Ivan Tait puts it this way,
Chase Me, and I will chase you. Chase Me, and your dead dreams will walk again. Chase Me, and your bad desires will melt away. Chase Me, and the giant-killer inside you will come forth. Chase Me, and you will find your destiny.
Chase Me, and heaven will follow you. Chase Me with you soul, and you will never lack peace. Chase Me with all your affection, and I will be your first, truest friend. Chase Me with your worship, and no idol will ever occupy your heart. Chase Me with your trust, and I will come through for you. Chase Me with your faith, and every mountain will move. Chase Me with your life, and we will never be strangers. Chase Me with your heart, and you and I will always be close.
Chase Me always, for I am already chasing you.
We are called to love God. The really good news is God wants us to be in relationship with him! He isn't running away to be chased, he is waiting for us with arms wide open.
When was the last time you said, "I love you, God?" -- Give it a go! He is waiting to hear those words from you.
