FROM THE DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN, YOUTH, & INTERGENERATIONAL MINISTRIES
Dear Saint Paul’s Family,

I am honored to be a part of this new ministry and grateful to Saint Paul’s for making its commitment to our children and youth. This ministry provides new opportunities to nurture the spiritual development of our parishioners and to provide them with a community in Christ. We are investing in our young people and offering space for the children and youth of our church to find wholeness in the arms of our faith community and to learn to live out our greatest commandment - to love God and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

You will notice that the ministry title of this new position also includes the term intergenerational. This inclusion means that as members, we shall be intentional about building relationships and ministries between different generations in our church and across our community. This occurs not only by bringing people of different ages into being with one another, but also gathering together for mutually serving, sharing, and learning with each other. Every generation then becomes a gift to our community, especially the older generations who are the backbone of our parish. They offer wisdom, guidance, experience, and encouragement to our younger members. In return, our children and youth bring energy, endless questions, and the new perspectives that enliven our parish community. By engaging in ministry and service together, we enrich each other as we build a stronger church community built on love and faith.

We are planning for the year ahead. Our plans include opportunities for bringing our wonderful children and youth into the life of Saint Paul’s. In the coming weeks, I will extend an invitation to all ages and abilities to find a place in our ministries. Please consider how you might be involved and committed and to pray with me to make this vision come true. We are at a pivotal moment in the life of Saint Paul’s; but our potential for rejuvenation needs your help. Thank you for entrusting me with this important work. There is much to be done, and I am excited about beginning this work together.

In Christ,

Kim Butler
Director of Children, Youth, and Intergenerational Ministry

“Children are nurtured as we talk about God and pray together, as we serve with God together, as we enjoy God’s gift of nature together, as we seek God together in our struggles, as we trust God together while we wait to see what God will do in our lives. When we are present with children in loving relationships, we let them know that God is present, that God is loving them with us. When we share this journey with children, they build a foundation that weathers the years to come the rest of their lives.”
COVID PROTOCOL UPDATES
In March of this year, the Vestry’s Gathering Safely Committee adopted metrics to guide our behaviors and interactions when we gather in the Church and in other social settings. We are thankful for and have enjoyed the opportunity to gather and worship again as we did pre-COVID, and we continue to monitor these health metrics to remain informed about the local COVID case rates.

Recently Richmond County’s case rates have ticked up, and as is appropriate in our protocols we will continue to operate as we have been but are recommending to be cautious of close personal contact when the peace is passed and where we sit in the pews.

I will echo Fr. Biddy’s comments from his March 18, 2022, Weekly Postings: the Church is not qualified to give medical advice or to assess your personal risk. Those who wish to continue to wear masks or to find a seat with some space around it in the Church are strongly encouraged to do so. If you generally feel safe, if you believe your risk level to be pretty low, we need [and want] you…at Church.

SURVEY THANKS!
The Adult Christian Formation Planning Committee is grateful to those who took a few minutes to fill out the Adult Formation survey. There were more than 50 respondents, and these people provided helpful information which will guide the creation of a plan for the coming 2022-2023 calendar. We received excellent suggestions for study topics, we learned something about the most convenient times to offer formation opportunities, and we had a number of people who might want to help lead a class in the future. Christian formation is a life-long journey which opens our minds and hearts to Christ and the world around us. Make plans to join a bible study, a book group, or a contemplative class and see how the Spirit is moving at Saint Paul's!
